Another sunny Saturday

Yet another glorious sunny Saturday afternoon and no home football. There have been no home Saturday matches this year so far. Any bets on whether there will be one in March? I understand that the health and safety of officials and players is vital, and I know that the weather has been simply dreadful, but it is getting so frustrating, especially when most of the Ryman Premier programme was on today.
3G (or 4G, 5G, 6G?. whatever) must surely be the future, where sustainable commercially, OR simply well drained and maintained pitches.

I share dw's frustration. It was only by chance that I checked the website and found to my sheer astonishment that the game was cancelled 6 hours prior to scheduled kick off and despite the sunny forecast. I'm sure one or two people will have turned up at Earlsmead this afternoon to be confronted by a locked ground. These people are likely to be lost to us forever.

Your frustrated - just got back from, my fourth or fifth recently wasted 300 mile round trip.
Also paid £60 not to go to Lewes! I was in Hendon library this morning when I found out.
The trips I have made in 2014 - Maidstone - a monsoon. Kingstonian - I had the flu, caught my train by seconds, and then I had to stand, squashed by the toilets from Wolverhampton to Euston.
Wealdstone - I still felt fuzzy in the head, whacked out on medication.
Just got stranded at Wolverhampton due to meeting up with Wolves fans.
Due to where I live, I have no alternative but to travel. Coming back through Northolt this afternoon the sun was shining. Same as Lowestoft at home. I know teams have to travel, but I do wonder sometimes if some games could be apparoached differently. 'IF' there is a chance of it being on, then go for it - I wonder if the games could be put back 24 hours as was suggested with our game at Hastings a couple of years back. Clutching at straws...
I need a very large drink.

Apologies for the late response to this - only just had a chance to speak to the relevant person who was at the inspection on Saturday morning.
When the inspection took place, there was quite a lot of standing water on the pitch, and in other areas, as soon as the referee set foot on it, water came up over his boots. Whilst the referee did take the weather forecast into account, after consulting the groundsman (and lets face it the groundsman is the one who knows the pitch) he felt there was very little, if any, chance of the pitch being playable by kick-off. Hence, unfortunately, the postponement.
I entirely concur that it was very frustrating to see the game called off given the weather on Saturday, particularly for Rob who makes that long journey every week, but based on what I've been told today, it sounds like it was entirely the right decision, and Bury were saved from what was likely to be a fruitless journey if we'd waited until the afternoon to make a final decision.
At least the weather does finally seem to be on the turn - from Friday onwards it is supposed to finally settle down. All being well we'll get the two games played this week. Kinda hoping we lose to Hampton as if we get to the final we lose our Easter Monday trip to Bognor!

With the Middlesex Cup our only chance of silverware, I would happily give up a Bank Holiday Bognor trip to see us lift a trophy at the end of the season! Really hoping Carshalton goes ahead as I have a day off work!

There's at least one, if not two pubs near the station, the name(s) of which escape me.
My comments about the county cup didn't come over well - be delighted if we win it, but will be very disappointed to miss the Easter trip to Bognor, particularly as it'll end up being a Thursday night (as will the home game against Bury)

Clubhouse it is. When I said watering hole I should have said nose bag. If I get the taste of a good beer then I'd struggle to get to the game, so have to restrict my sins to good food, at least I can focus on the match.
Off on another tangent, and apologies if already discussed, an away day to Guernsey is a possibility next season, anyone have any views, thoughts or advice should it happen.

A Guernsey weekender would be superb, I would suggest flying from Gatwick early doors on the Saturday and coming back on the Sunday afternoon after a piss up!
