W&H Preview/Predictions

We welcome the bookies favourites to Earlsmead tonight. Walton and Hersham, promoted last season have had a funny start to the season. On the opening day, they trailed to Winchester 2-0 before rain/waterlogged pitch halted the game. They then hosted Swindon on Saturday. Swindon took the lead twice but conceded 3 goals in the last 15 mins to lose 4-2 to W&H. Swindon had opened the season with a 7-2 defeat at home to Poole.

W&H are supposedly owned by the youngest owners in world football. They took over in 2019 and have overseen a few promotions in that time.

Their main man will be Eddie Simon who scored an English record of four hat-tricks in successive games last season. He missed their match v Swindon due to his wedding.

As of July 2023, the club has amassed 1.1 million TikTok followers, granting it a sizeable global following.

We played well on Saturday but made some mistakes, but kept going to get a point. My head says a Walton win but I’m going to go for a 2-2 draw.

A very strange game. Walton by far the better side first half. We had no answer to their play and Tristan Vernal who looked very good against Totton, just couldn’t get close to their striker. They probably should have been about 5-0 up by the time we got our penalty on the stroke of half time. In fairness, Talla hit the penalty very well, it was an extremely good save by their keeper.

Cameron and Kandolo came on at half time and to be honest, I’m surprised those subs weren’t made sooner, with us really struggling at the back. They were clearly good subs as the opening 10 minutes of the second half was an onslaught from Boro. We could have scored 5 goals ourselves in that period. We kept pressing and got our reward through Mitchell again. 3 in 3 from the former chelsea man. We had some other chances too but Kandolo then gave a (soft) penalty away in the 89th. He then misplaced a pass for the fourth goal in stoppage time. It was a shame as he had done well up until then and 2-1 would have been close enough. 4-1 feels like a bit of a drubbing, but in fairness we gave it a real go.

This team will hopefully keep improving but Jordan can’t let them get down about not having a win yet. There’s some real positive signs. On another night we would have won that 3-2.

In other positive news, George Moore was spotted in the stands. Despite the result, hopefully the performance was encouraging to him, in that it might sway him to think about rejoining the club (if that is even a slight possibility).

On to Basingstoke we go.

Yep on to Basingstoke.

Sounds as though something's never change with the Boro .

Our run of bad luck when it comes to penalties . . . .

An entertaining game. Tobin is a good shot stopper but would benefit from coming for corners and crosses.

I hope that the team don’t lose heart given the results. It seems that the fixtures to date have been difficult and there is no reason to expect Basingstoke will be any different. If confidence is maintained I think we are looking at mid-table.
