Boro 1 Merthyr Town 2

We had a decent opening 40 minutes, then gave away a free kick on the edge of our own box which started 5 minutes of headless chicken defending. Inevitably it ended with Merthyr taking the lead.

2nd half was a repeat of most matches this season. Trying to play out from the back, Tyler making some good saves to keep us in the game.
We simply are not good enough to play out effectively at this level.
When we switch to a long ball , the back 8 are far to deep to either support the forward players on the rare occasion they keep possession or to challenge to win the ball back if they don't.

We played five at the back with Henry alongside Reece and Harry and it seemed to work. As usual giving away silly free kicks in dangerous areas and dribbling across the penalty area or even the goal line
( yes you Tyler Tobin) persisted. It’s a Southern League suicide strategy. We are now in the relegation zone having played more games than those below us. It’s not looking good but there is the potential to comfortably survive. Cut out the silliness and we will be ok.

They will have to start improving fast if we are to survive. I thought Saturday was an embarrassing performance. We’re so far off the pace. Merthyr were very comfortable. The run of games upcoming to the new year is quite daunting. Maybe we win at Sholing. The rest, great if we pick anything up. Maybe we get a point at Hungerford who are pretty free scoring but I don’t see much else from Gosport, Poole, Basingstoke, Hendon or Chesham. Perhaps in Jan/Feb we pull ourselves up the table a bit but I think come March and April we will be holding on for dear life.
