Gordon Harberd ...

It is with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Gordon Harberd on Sunday morning (10th September 2017).

Gordon, together with his wife Christine, are among the first people that most visitors to Wheatsheaf Park will have met at every game for the last few seasons, as they have been responsible for selling programmes, 50/50 tickets, and as part of our team of volunteers in the Club Shop. A committed fan who was always willing to help and dispense friendly advice, whether about the Club or his other passion – gardening – Gordon will be sadly missed.

Gordon and Christine have been very long service Staines Town supporters, and indeed have family ties to the Club dating back almost three quarters of a century. The reorganisation of the Supporters’ Club in 2012 prompted them to step up from the terraces to volunteer, and they were popular, efficient, and valuable members of our ‘team’.

Gordon continued to follow the team, at home and away, and he and Chris were regulars on our coach trips and minibuses – except on the odd occasions (like this weekend) when his involvement at the Egham Gardens and Allotment Association kept him away. Gordon was extremely successful regularly exhibiting prize winning Dahlias and arrangements at shows near and far. This hobby, together with Gordon’s love of steam trains, have regularly kept his football friends entertained throughout the season.

Our deepest sympathies go to Christine, and to Gordon’s other family members and his many friends in and out of football. We will, of course, provide funeral details as soon as we have them.
