Ever since Westley left for the second time it’s become apparent that we are deficient in midfield. More often than not, opposition teams will come to Broadhall Way and pass the ball through our static midfield and, when we have possession, there’s no short outlet as our midfield is again static.

This season I don’t think it’s down to the personnel as much as it might have been beforehand. I rate Timlin and Byrom. They are both neat and tidy and do the simple things well. But the current system leaves them exposed. I say current system, but it seems to be the one that our managers have persisted with for years. Ultimately, I believe we should have 3 players in central midfield, playing one up front. This would allow more movement in midfield when defending and attacking. Of course, this is also dependent on Dino instructing the players to move into space when we have the ball, thus avoiding 12 passes across the back 4 before Nugent tries to place it on Revell’s head from 60 yards.
