Boro's turnaround in numbers

We've now played 36 league games, the same as the curtailed season last year, allowing us to compare like with like:

2019/20 results

22 points
Won 3
Drawn 13
Lost 20

Goals for: 24 (24th of 24)
Goals against: 50 (17th of 24)

2020/21 results

43 points
Won 9
Drawn 16
Lost 11

Goals for: 28 (22nd of 24)
Goals against: 31 (2nd of 24)

So a marginal gain in attacking prowess, offset by a huge improvement in defence, leading to our status as kings of the 0-0 draw.

Check out our cumulative points tallies as the two seasons progressed:

After getting four points on the board early doors, we soon reverted to eerily similar form to the previous season. In fact, by 21 November we were marooned on 8 points from 13 games, exactly matching where we were at the same point.

The following 5 games saw us repeat the precise 6 points we got the season before during our spell of midtable form under Sampson, with similarly rare goalscoring. Everything changed between Christmas '19 and Christmas '20 except shit Boro.

The Wilkins Effect?

Dean joined us before game 18, a draw with Cheltenham. We then went on to beat Cambridge, and that's where we suddenly picked up.

In January 2020, we beat Cambridge 4-0 and went on to lose the next 8. This season, we took 12 points from the following 8 games. Had GW done that, we'd have finished above Morecambe and that would've been that; no tribunals, no appeals, no Phil calling in favours from the fraternal order.
