The North Stand boundary fence is plastered in adverts.

Needless to say it is a prime spot for all of these companies to stump up their money to advertise....and our club can't be bothered to put up the fixture card for the next home game.

These companies must feel they will get a return so why oh why don't we bother??

It would almost certainly bring in new supporters which our club is so desperate for.

I find it genuinely hilarious how often the fixtures board is brought up.

We live in a world of the internet, where information is always at the tip of our fingers, and yet people still complain about a fucking wooden board.

I guarantee that if you put Stevenage vs Real Madrid on the fixtures board, your average non-Stevenage fan passer by wouldn't even fucking notice.

I'm surprised people haven't started blaming you when we lose. It's basically a fact that our inability to defend set pieces is as a direct result of you not updating the fixtures board.

Perhaps its because all of these people have a point.

In a world of the internet there are advertising boards everywhere the public may lay their eyes on them...so are you saying all of these companies don't have the internet!

Your comment is just as hilarious!

All forms of advertising have an effect, if not, why do these multi national companies advertise in this way. Money to burn or money to be made?

Why not put a board up on the outside fence.

But as another contributor mentioned its hardly a building site is it.

Its the same 2/3 people mentioning it over and over again. Most people don't care.

When people walk past the ground, do you really think they're going to say to themselves "ooh, Stevenage are playing Crawley this weekend! I must rush down with all my mates."??

We could have a fixture's board printing 5 pound notes and people still wouldn't pay attention to it.

To be frank, fixture board to one side, Stevenage FC has just about the same street cred as Crawley has in their town.

It should be a case of promoting the club in as many ways as possible giving the club more exposure. So wherever there are people linked to the town (Bus station, Taxi ranks, Railway Station, Supermarkets, schools, College etc) the club should have visual presence.

Once you have new people hooked they can then be reeled in via the internet.

All I'm saying is that the more exposure you give the club the more credence and the more chance of attracting more fans.

I think what you're saying is very reasonable logic, albeit somewhat simplistic. However, I don't think there are going to be people walking around the town centre who would be swayed by more signage promoting the club. Sure, it's not going to hurt, but I just don't think anyone cares enough to be swayed if they haven't been already. We are reliant on the new generation of supporters, the u15 age group. Even at 15 quid, it's just not what your average person would consider good value for money. We think it is, but that's cos we like the club. If you don't have that tie, you're never paying more than a tenner for what is viewed as pub football.

Any adult living in Stevenage interested in sport is more than likely already going to be tied to a club. Tottenham, West Ham, Arsenal, Man Utd... And if they're into football they'll already know Stevenage exist. If they're not into football or sport, there isn't much hope of getting them to come to a game by a sign or fixture board.

So yes, the younger generation are the key for us. And we do focus our attentions that way, working with schools, in communities and youth/kid based promotions and programmes. Before they get to go to Emirates, New White Hart Lane, Olympic Stadium... we need them to enjoy coming to our place which is (now) cheaper and hopefully more convenient. That way even if they follow a PL club as well they'll still come to watch us.

If we had a scoreboard on a pivot, like Norwich, we could spin it to face the A602 between matches and show tempting erotic adverts on it to entice passing trade into the club shop. Just put up some of those plastic strips at the club shop door and take out every other light bulb in the shop to complete the sleazy adult store look.

It would have the added benefit of making those who use the supporters coach feel at ease around the club, thus bolstering their self-esteem.
