What a win!!

By Boromatt12/1 18:08Sat Jan 12 18:08:41 2019

Massive win, 41 points and probably safe from the drop, another home win and back in contention with the top 7.

Just a quick mention, I knew given the chance James Ball would come good, so happy for him. Also, i thought Dino picked a perfect side today. Massive balls from the players in seeing off that pressure!

Well done lads, COYB!

Backs against the wall wins are always quite satisfying, it does show that the team can apply themselves and work together well. However, this isn't the same thing as being any good.

I haven't been measuring our fortunes this season by the threat of relegation though, it has always looked broadly likely that we'd finish somewhere between 8th and 18th. Mid table is fine, the club 'feels' better in an undefinable, abstract way.

Sign a few quality players, probably on loan if you're looking at 'quality', and if you fluke 1 or 2 decent punts then we might have a tilt at the play offs. Wouldn't put my mortgage on it though.

Agree, not playing the best of football but picking up points and are still in the hunt for the playoffs, would rather be in this position than 18th.

Hopefully we can improve over coming weeks and push on. If not mid table is not the end of the world come season end.

Just seen Ben Mayhew has tweeted the estimated finishes based on expected goals. I'd say 12th is about right, to be fair.

Yep. His analysis stuff is pretty good usually. Although I don't profess to understand statistics.

It's broadly about the probability of scoring based on the number/quality of chance created. I'm not sure how the quality is measured, but it's interesting none the less.

Easy to say that in hindsight.

We need width, we had Seddon but Moses wasn't sure whether to stick wide or not. Grew into the game and played well, but he's either a wide player or a CM (he says he's a CM).

So drop Byrom and playMoses or Arthur, and get a winger out wide right.

But we won, we battled hard, so who gives a shit.

Completely agree with this. We lacked width massively today. Thought Moses first half grew into the game and played a part in both goals, second half he was anonymous.

I think we were unfortunate with the injuries and subs being made at the stages they were but, credit to Dino bringing on Ball and credit to him for taking his chances - he deserves them.

I really want to like Arthur and I think he’ll be a good player but he’s not ready IMO to be playing first team football, especially at this stage of the season. When Joel went off injured I’d of rather seen Moses tuck inside next to Timlin, who I thought was outstanding and my MOTM, and bring snoopy on to give us a flat 442 or even a 4411 with ball behind Newts.

A win is a win though, so cheers to that. Hoping for a decent 2nd half of the season.

It's a disgrace that Iontton has a song, yet Timlin, Seddon and Cuthbert don't.

Young Arthur is alright but he isn't amazing as the twitter world are making him out to be.

All the Byrom haters can do one. The man needs movement in front of him otherwise of course he'll play the safe option. He's the best passer of the ball in the team by a countrymile. Just like Big Ben, Joel is unfashionable so people look for a mistake.

Dino needs to give the 4-2-3-1 a go. It worked for Sarlly for about 3 months.

Farman
Luther Cuthbert Nugent/Wilko Hunt
Byrom Timlin
Newton *Whoever* Seddon
Revell

That team will destroy the opposition. Perhaps play Ball in the *whoever* position and we're laughing.

Haha, I feel like we've tried formations like that this season with players all over the place not knowing what tjeyre doing. Newton on the wing? Revell out wide then central. Kennedy roaming about. No structure or organisation or width.

I just want to see a traditional 442 with this squad of players. Don't think we have the players to be effective in anything else.

We know Byrom can pass. He struggles to work box to box though, especially alongside Timlin.

At home against mediocre teams we don't need two strong defensively minded midfielders, we need more mobility in the middle third, playing forwards. Moses or Arthur can provide that.

4-2-3-1 isn't for me, leaves our FBs exposed or drags Newton/the other wide one* back into their own half leaving the striker isolated.

*I assume Seddon is gone.

Totally agree. Especially against the crap teams where we could do with an extra attack minded midfielder.

We're still picking up plenty of wins at home though so we must be doing something right.

The highlights made it look like we were defending wayyyyyyyyyyy to deep again, even in the first few minutes. I still hate the everyone behind the ball stuff. Crawley had so many chances just in front of our goal as a result, so they really should have scored.

That said we won and Dino signed a midfielder that can run, so small steps in the right direction.
