I've been to Morecambe for the past 5 years. Unfortunately I had too many tax returns to do and had to work. Gutted I couldn't go.

But now I only have 24 left to do, and about 100 to submit, so it was worth the sacrifice. 8 days left.

Thanks for your post. Very enlightening. What you fail to see is that you cannot possible compare the two clubs, Us Boro fans would have to acknowledge that we don't have the football heritage that Luton does. You cannot ignore that. Luton, but for their Conference blip, have for many years been an established league club with a large (ish) core support, well, compared to Boro anyway. That is why, even when you slipped into non-league, you still got regular crowds of 5 or 6 thousand. And when you hit the Championship, as you may well do this season, you will no doubt get back to crowds of 8,9 or 10k, especially if you have a new ground built. Now, take us. We've only been a league club since 2011, and as a club only reformed in 1980. There is little football heritage in the town beyond the old amateur days of Stevenage Town and Athletic. That is why, despite an increasing population, we will ever grow much bigger than we currently are. In fact, our crowds have been in decline for a fair while. Put that down to cost, geographical location with many in the town supporting London clubs, or just apathy. Probably a few reasons... So given our supporter base is smaller than yours isnt it only to be expected that we have a smaller away following? Then when you factor in a 400 mile round trip in bitter weather then a very small away contingent would be expected. It doesnt matter if we took 45 or 450 - we still won and came back with three points. So good luck with the rest of your season - but don't belittle us. It makes you look a right cockwomble

As bad and soulless as Stevenage as a place is in comparison to many a fine English town - it’s undeniably far from the dive that Luton has become (that’s saying something).

I’m surprised that Luton doesn’t have more “travelling fans” in proportion to their “home attending fans” since it’s an extra excuse to get out of that awful ghetto if only for the day...

I haven’t logged into this forum for about 2 years (given I live overseas and don’t get to any games any more) and given how well Luton are doing and everything going on at the club, the last thing I expected to see was a little Luton fan on here still looking to take the piss. Mate, we’re a much smaller club than Luton, have been shit away from home, and Morecambe is a fucking long trip most of us have made about 100 times already through Conference and League 2 days.

Was it a crap following for League 2? Sure, if you like. But that’s 45 loyal fans who support their local club through thick and thin so quite frankly no one cares what you think. Well done those who went.

A thread about fan numbers can only be about supporters, as opposed to football, right?

With regard to your comment about policing numbers, i would suggest that we presented one of the largest away followings that Hertfordshire Police had to deal with throughout the season? Also, whilst i realise that nearly all of us follow football due to our love of the game/our club, creating a "pleasant" atmosphere is not high up on the list of the travelling hoardes' priorities.

Our home games can present a hostile atmosphere to both visiting players and supporters. We pride ourselves on this. Our away following will attempt to replicate this as best they can.

I do not presume to know where you have or haven't been, though i can say that having followed Luton to places such as The Den, Molineux, and latterly, Fratton Park, "pleasant" was not a vibe the home support was aiming at....All bloody good days out though.

As i have just said, was watching the EFL Show and deemed your travelling numbers worthy of comment.

In recent years, whether either of us liked it or not, we have had a local rivalry going on. That rivalry will very likely be consigned to history as the gap between the two clubs continues to grow, though it is still relevant enough to make 45 travelling fans well worth a remark or two.

I'm not even sorry.

You do however have some good, solid pro's currently turning out for you, and they deserve better than that pitiful level of support. If my memory serves me, 700 odd turned up to our place a couple of seasons back? I appreciate the obvious difference in distance, but 45? The likes of Scotty Cuthbert and Wilko deserve better.

The visiting fans at Morecambe on Saturday I’m guessing accounted for about 4.5% of the total attendance.
Which is like taking 2,800 away fans to Old Trafford, which in turn is a bigger number than turn up for most Stevenage home games.Impressive numbers.
Well done to those that travelled.

As you say, you’ve moved on from the level, rather than still focussing on us ourslves in league two focus on yourself. Because let me tell you, there’s not one day when I think about Luton. If anything, it’s a pleasure your out of league two, the amount of bother your fans used to cause on match days embarrassed the league.

The league is a far better place without the likes of some of the brainless knuckle draggers from Kenilworth road.

Judging by his comments, this plonker either falls into that category or hasn't the basic intelligence to understand how pathetic glorying in being 'hostile' is.

I enjoyed our trips to Kenilworth Road (apart from that shower of shit last season)

The 2-0 win when every player was incredible, the Kennedy dive + Tongey pen and of course the scenes when Lairdy scored late on to win 1-0 and sack Mick Halfords.
