The Last 10

10 games left, another quick season which has seen some great results and performances, also followed by some bad ones, I think it’s fair to say the word that has summed our season up is inconsistent. In my honest opinion, I think The Play Offs are just out of reach this season, we’ve lost far too many games and I honestly think we’re not good enough, just yet. Next season however, could be much different. I think it’s safe to say we will be in The Football League for our 10th year next season, unless something absolutely horrific happens in the closing stages of this season, which I cannot see happening, so at least we can look forward to. I think the great thing about our position going into the last 10 is, no pressure, we can turn up and enjoy seeing the team play, as I enjoyed our performance on Saturday, we’ve got quite a few exciting games against team chasing promotion, so it’ll be good to see how we get on and end the season.

So then, how do people think we’ll finish? Points and league position?

My Predictions:

Swindon (H) 3 points
MK Dons (A) 1 point
Macclesfield (A) 3 points
Notts County (H) 3 points
Grimsby (A) 1 point
Carlisle (H) 0 points
Port Vale (A) 1 point
Exeter (H) 1 point
Mansfield (A) 0 points
Cheltenham (H) 3 points

I think we’ll get 65 points and finish in 10th. Which to be honest, isn’t too bad. Peoples thoughts?

Next 5 unbeaten and only 2 defeats between now and the end of the season...

Loving your optimism as ever Matt.

You are right that we are not really under any pressure, the test will be whether the players can step up, focus and deliver to ensure they stay on the clu books or whether they will let their minds drift towards their summer holidays.

10th-13th places about where we will finish. We don't deserve to be any higher given our inconsistency.

I'll wager 5 Farley pounds we win 5 or more of our last 10. If we don't win tonight the bet is void and null.

Edit:

Is that 5 we've won now?

Swindon
Grimsby
Carlisle
Port Vale
Mansfield

5 out of 9. Drawing 3 and only losing one, the most important one.

Not a chance.

The fact maamria averages less points per game than Sarll and they have the same win ratio aswell that we haven’t improved
I love your optimism even if we have got 2 points from the last 5 games

5 of the teams we've got left we have already beaten this season, 2 we've drawn and 3 we've lost.

So if you were going to go on that basis we should do alright.

If you are going on current form we'll do terribly.

If you're going on League position, we'll not do great.

Who knows, that's what makes league 2 football really EXCITING. No team is that much better than any other, only Bury have destroyed us this season and we had 10 men for most of that.

We've only got 2 points from the last however many games and still haven't really moved league position which says to me teams are taking points off each other. I don't think we'll make the playoffs but it's not impossible.

Every game is winnable in this division. If the team were to build from that good performance on Saturday I think we’ll finish well. Every season the top sides drop points at the end of the season and all those teams down the bottom seem to improve, so I reckon a lot of our last 10 games will be competitive.

Wish it wasn’t so but I don’t see us getting any points in the Swindon, MK Dons or Exeter games. Not the way things are going. They are all (and should all be) better teams than us unless we have a booster run of confidence to tip the balance - but aside from the odd recent Chair moment I can’t see where it’s going to come from.

We’ll stay up and Maamria deserves a second season of course (though I don’t personally rate him greatly - but anyone who loves the club like he does is as good as anyone else to get the chance for a spell to develop and evolve).

Would be nice if we get 3 wins by the end of the season - and any more would be a surprising bonus.

We have a right to beat anyone in the league. As Sev mentioned - everyone is taking points off each other. That’s the only reason we have remained in the top half despite really dodgy form. No one is infallible this year.

Hope we do beat Swindon. But I suspect we won’t.

And yes I get the ironic comment - so no whoosh moment. Swindon and Exeter are often bogey clubs for us.

It’s been a year of League Two football. I wouldn’t say there have been any great performances. Individual moments such as late goals to win games or nick a point certainly.

Any flirtation with the play-offs finished a month or so ago, though was it ever really a realistic target? I don’t think so.

Next season is where Dino and his vision really start to be judged. He’ll have had three transfer windows and ample opportunity to move on players he doesn’t want as well as identifying what we need to add without a massive summer overhaul hopefully.

We’ll finish this campaign mid/lower-mid table I feel.

Out of interest, on what basis does 65 points get you 10th position or vice-versa. Have you mapped out the trajectory of every club between now and the end of the season?

65 might get us 14th?
