A good display today.

Fairly even first half. Our goal taken well by Guthrie after a nice through ball from Chair.

Important and incredible save from Farman early on.
Could have been 1 down but for that.

Second half never really got going. Disjointed and stoppages. Again Guthrie with a neat header although was surprise it went in.

Grimsby had chances but on the whole defence was fairly comfortable.

TVC did well slotting in as 3rd CB and provided cover to allow Wildin to attack more.

Martin had a good enough game too down the left.

Makasi actually featured a bit more than usual today and obviously Guthrie got 2 goals and had a good game.

We are now mathematically safe.

Went to this game as I live not far from Grimsby and haven't seen Boro play for a while.
A competent performance with the defence rarely tested in any meaningful way.
Agree with the game summary. Thought Martin showed a lot of class today and Wildin also had a good game.
Some brilliant saves from our Keeper BUT tell me why is Byrom playing he contributes little and gives the ball away too often - pleased he went off at half time.

Byrom's pass to Chair that set up first goal? Decent contribution to be fair...

Byrom was barely good enough in the conference when he was with us before. He scored a couple of memorable and important goals during that time and so now he can do little wrong in the eyes of some on here. Clearly a favourite of the manager as he should be no where near the starting XI.

^^^^ A complete confirmation that you Sir have zero understanding of football.

Ask any of the squad and management from our Conference winning gang how important Byrom was to our success.

We played the same formation away at Grimsby with Byrom in the team, we took the lead and kept a clean sheet.

When you say record what do you mean? Games played? Goals scored? Clean sheets? Overall team league position?

He was part of the Northampton side that won promotion from League Two.

So he's won two promotions, played regularly in leagues one and two.

I'm not saying that makes him great I'm just trying to see what part of his record at other clubs tells you all you need to know?

I'd suggest 80% of players at our level do.

Exceptions are players sold and Ronnie Henry-type long service.

Joel isn't perfect, but I'd love to sit and watch a game with you and watch what he does and others don't. Maybe we look at football differently. Actually no maybe about it.

His passing and dead ball are arguably some of the best in this division. Plus he can tackle and he's good in the air.

He's been off his game the past month or so which is fustrating but if he's playing with an injury every game then what the hell can we do about it?!

He had his critics before he even arrived here for the second time but he's streets ahead of Johnny Smith and Dale Gorman.

My Nan is better than Gorman and Smith.

Although its funny to hear Gorman being considered poor now, after months and months and months of everyone insisting he was brilliant.

I don't disagree that he is a great passer of the ball at this level, but that means little if you can't keep up with the pace of the game. He would only work in a setup where you had a very mobile player box to box type player alongside him.

Thought the first half was initially lazy and disorganised - if that was meant to be three at the back why did TVC spend so much time in the right back position with Cuthbert in close attendance and Nuge off on his own with acres of space in all directions around him?

Farman saved us though - the saves were even better when I saw them replayed in the bar at half time (a nice feature in a surprisingly decent matchday set up - which I'll put down to fan ownership).

Both goals were balls of such quality from Chair that it was harder for Guthrie to miss but credit where it's due. Newton coming on meant we didn't give up all threat when Chair went off.

After we got 2-0 up I thought we were really strong - didn't make Grimsby look any better than they were for no reason as you might expect. I thought the disjointed nature was down to our game management, which did the job very nicely.
