This Bury thing

Not sure whether this is the place to gauge people's sensible feelings on football right now. But it makes a change from finding out if Wasp touched himself on the sofa and whether we can bully young Reece into submission.

It would seem Bury don't have the funds to pay the players that got them promotion.

I have a source that tells me we had the opportunity to sign one of their influential players last summer and let's say we offered him £1x.. Bury sign him for £3x

So we can't compete.

Bury fail to pay the geezer that.

Surely the contract is null and void and he could have signed for us and got paid all his wages.

What im saying is cancel their promotion and let Mansfield go up.......

Thoughts:

a) If he's too sick to leave his bed, let alone his house, how is he deemed fit to run a football club?
b) What on earth was that absolute mess of a press release? I honestly think a 15 year old could have done a better job.
c) Sounds like a long list of excuses and bullshit. There's no smoke without fire.

I’d skip past the A question and ask how he was deemed fit to run a club with 36 closed down businesses under his name.

Jesus wept. And of those 7 which haven't been dissolved, 3 of them are Bury (Bury FC Company, Bury FC Heritage, Bury FC Leisure), and 2 of them have the same name (Dale Acquisitions Ltd). So... really that means there's only 3 companies he has been involved with that haven't dissolved, Bury FC, Dale Acquisitions Ltd and Northern Estates & Developments Ltd.

3. Out of 43. Just under 7%.

I wonder if he would hire a manager who relegated 40 out of 43 teams that he managed?

I was in 100% agreement with you until 'Let Mansfield go up.....'

As for the players contract, I guess it depends on the terms and conditions but most contracts have a clause that cancels it if one side doesn't or can't fulfil their obligations.

Financial Fair Play, like the 'fit and proper' criteria isn't worth the paper Shaun Harevy had it printed onto, clubs routinely bend and break the rules, largely with impunity, chucking extra money in through inflated sponsorship and the like, things have to really go to ratshit before points get docked or transfer bans are imposed.

As it stands Wallace could lease a meeting room at the stadium for his food group for £1m an hour, or rent advertising hoardings at way above market rate and it would probably get waived through as legitimate income which could then be used for players.

That's how Man City do it, allegedly.

I agree that they shouldn't be allowed to go up if their finances aren't in order......there should be some kind of structure that should be followed for promotion to any league, whether that be to do with the ground or the financial situation of the club. To me it's no different to us not getting into the league because the ground wasn't up to standard.

Yes. Sanctions and punishment should be handed out to those who spend beyond their means. That is my view.

If clubs can benefit from being financially irresponsible or even just get away with it then nothing will change.

I don6t know the Bury situation but if they can't pay the players who got them promoted they should be punished with points deductions.

Only then might clubs learn to behave.

The problem is, as long as the Premier League is the way it is, and the FFP is so poorly enforced as it is, nothing is going to change this low down. If a League One/Two yo-yo club goes out of business, the only people who care are the fans of that club. The EFL couldn't give a monkeys.

I can't remember who the player was that we were close to signing, but lets say it was Nicky Adams or Danny Mayor, and then they come sniffing after we've made an offer and the player has to take the double or treble offer.

But its a fantasy. Not real. Our offer was real and you would have got all that dough. You'd like to think that an Adams or Mayor would have influenced a couple more points to ensure we had a play off place

Maybe i'm looking too deeply and feeling hard done by!

Football is dodgy and corrupt. Always will be.

Fair play to Player X for taking the money, even just six months (and they got paid March's wages by the PFA, so have received 8-9 months) on 3x the value pays more than 12 months at one time the value, so player X has made more money despite not being paid a number of months. And living up north is cheaper. And he got a medal. And if he is good he will get a deal elsewhere for the new season, especially after just winning promotion. Hopefully he hasn't tied himself into too expensive a lifestyle.
