Very silly. Not only does it paint the club with a bad brush and has cost us financials, it gives officials this season a motivate to stitch us up. I wish people would learn.

I was just in the kitchen chatting to the wife about this earlier, when I suggested to her that the worst thing about sexist chanting was that it cost the club money and gave officials the motivation to give penalties against us... and she punched me in the face. But enough about our sex life.

This has my vote for post of the season already !

So having read this whole thread , all who postsin Boro chat did not do any of the inappropriate singing , we all hugely condemn it , yet despite all telling the rest of the crowd to stop singing these songs , as I assume all of the outraged must of , We failed to stop it ? Thus confirming that this forum has no power over its own fan base and we are just the outraged elite ? Do I have that right ? Asking for a friend , who likes to wear his wife’s underwear and edits the daily Stevenage

I would follow these guidelines

If you said any off those things to a female co worker you would face disciplinary action or the sack because it is unacceptable behaviour.

Ms Lisa Rashid was doing her job as an official.

If you have to think twice about it, then it probably is offensive and not appropriate.

Think about how you would feel if someone was saying it to your Mum, Sister, Daughter. If you wouldn't like it then don't say it.

In other words just try and be a fucking adult, and not a fucking embarrassment

Peer pressure is the best pressure, so perhaps we should resolve to challenge rather than tut or shale or heads, that's me included

I am sure Ms Lisa Rashid does not read a forum that she must think is full of prepubescent teenagers but if she did I would like to apologise for the moronic behaviour.

I suspect that given the choice she would not touch any of the chanters with a bargepole, so it was a rhetorical question I assume!

8. There is no dispute that what happened at the match on 9 March 2019 (supported by
video evidence) was:
(1) The designated fourth official was Ms Lisa Rashid.
(2) Around the 18th minute of the game, one of the (male) assistant referees was
unable to continue and Ms Rashid had to take his place.
(3) As Ms Rashid was preparing to come on the pitch, a group of around 75 to 100
standing spectators on that side of the ground started offensive chanting.
(4) Those spectators were home supporters. Bury FC fans were placed in the South
Stand, well away from the offending section of the crowd.
(5) The offensive chanting continued for some 7 or 8 minutes overall and included
specific chants:
“We’d shag the lino” (as Ms Rashid put on her communication system in
preparation to take over as Assistant Referee)
“Get your tits out for the lads” (as Ms Rashid ran across the pitch to take
up her position)
“If you’d all shag the lino clap your hands” (after Ms Rashid had taken up
her position on the East side and play had restarted)

I'd like to know where the chants were coming from. It says "as she was preparing to come in the pitch" which would be by the main stand so was it the main stand, but then says as she took her place on the east, so was it the east. It sounds like the East.

I don't remember this and I think if it had been going on for 7 or 8 minutes I'd have remembered (unless I wasn't at the game) as I also at least sigh when people sing celery and the like.

Also never heard such shit chants. Not your typical sexist song you hear. Must have been some right inbred idiots.

Agree.
Obviously wrong but this happens routinely at most games when there is a female official.
FA must be or should be fining a lot of clubs then.
Do thy only act if the official or a member of crowd complains .

I've been to a few non-league games with 1-300 crowds where there were female officials or physios. The odd wolf whistle aside, it hasn't happened. People know it's frowned upon but do it when they've got strength in numbers - they wouldn't take the risk in a crowd which is small enough to self-regulate.

Well said.

If one person confronts these sexists he/she needs to be backed up by other supporters. It is so often the case that one person will confront a racist or sexist only to find others just look on without getting involved.

It needs a concerted effort from everyone to stamp this out.

A CCTV camera with sound fitted under the TV gantry in the Middle of east Terrace and linked to the Police/ Steward control room above stripes (is it still used?) might help, and may also stop the pyro antics as well .
Might be cheaper than regular £5K+ fines also.
Mind you the offenders may have all moved to the £99 stand!

Every part of the crowd is covered by CCTV and is monitored in the control room. Obviously stewards can't kick out "75-100" people but they need help identifying the initiator(s) of the chants in order to stamp it out and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Historically I think the greatest method for stamping out discrimination has been a word in someone's ear by a mate. I guess if all their mates are absolute weapons then we have to befriend them first, then have a word?
