Replacement for Dino

By Mercury 887/9 19:14Sat Sep 7 19:14:23 2019

Who would you fellow Boro fans would like to see step in and replace Dino when he eventually is shown the door by Wallace ?

In my opinion 7 games without a win is now enough to see that Dino isn't our man to achieve our aim this season which is promotion.

Our aim for this season shouldn't ever have been promotion, we're rebuilding on and off the field and people are failing to take that into consideration and being overly optimistic.

I don't think many people can be accused of being overly optimistic at the moment.

Even Farley, Sev and Reece are raising a concerned eyebrow.

It’s not the results that are making me overly concerned, well they are but I wouldn’t consider sacking on that alone

The lack of progress is what’s doing it. Takes a lot for me to be pissed off but yesterday did it

I was discussing this yesterday and said the fans will always lose patience when there's a lack of progress or an absence of conviction from the manager that they know how to turn things around. We are very close to the "I just cant put my finger on it" point.

He also called Guthrie out for "not doing enough".

Said "Cuthbert declared himself fit"

They were my two takeaways.

A gaffer probably shouldn't publicly call out players after a defeat. Can only do harm/create divisions in the rank.

And it shouldn't be Cuthbert's choice (and wouldn't if we had a physio)

He said Guthrie didn't do enough "and he knows that". So wasn't a massive dig at him imo more like an observation.

And that Cuthbert had trained 3 days with no problems and declared himself fit. Wasn't just like he'd been sitting out injured then decided he was ok to play.

"And he knows that" - because Dino and or his team-mates told him. Either way it isn't good for team spirit to mention it outside the dressing room. (Not that Guthrie did enough, from what I heard he was anonymous).

That aside, I say drop him.

Some people saying Newton should've started because he scored two. But maybe he scored two because he wasn't starting. He got an opportunity and knew he had to show what he can do. He did that.

Start him next game.

Guthrie then has to prove himself next time he gets his chance (probably as a 70 minute sub next match) then he might have more hunger. (He gets the winner then everyone saying he should've started).

Fans don't react too kindly and season ticket sales aren't the best if you suggested your aim was to bob around in 12th-18th and not lose any more money.

The club has to say it is looking for promotion, even if it doesn't expect it

Only Phil will know what his expectations were and if the team isn't meeting them then he may make big decisions

Rebuilding is also expensive, buying new players, paying up contracts, signing-on fees for free agents, lawyers for contracts, agent's fees, knowing that a good proportion of new signings won't work out.

Not to mention all that new training gear and those iron-on letters.

A stable squad is a cheap squad. Freeing up more money, which we don't have a lot of, to focus on genuinely improving when you need to rather than replacing wholesale.
