Credit where it's due to Sampson... at least he's prepared to try something different. I'm interested to see how the formation works and how Watts does in midfield.

Great stuff. Genuinely positive after that.

Maybe Sampson has got something about him. Looking at the Oldham result, maybe Dino was the problem.

I'll be calling for Wezza after the next defeat because I'm incredibly fickle.

Those substitutions were absolutely criminal. Nearly cost us the game.

Going 5-4-1 with 20 minutes to go is embarrassing.

I assume Wildin was injured, because I cant imagine why else he would be taken off. And was Watts playing left wing at the end?! He just disappeared. And Byrom on for Cowley is just an awful substitution. You do that when there's 5-10 minutes left.

Just being pleased that you won is a recipe for making the same mistakes next game and failing to pick up points that you should.

Whilst there was a vast improvement in result this weekend it was only really a slight improvement on some of the performances. There's clear room for improvement that needs to be acknowledged and addressed to take us up the table.

Think Sampson nearly Blew it again with his substitutions .... that’s the problem this season we seem to be coasting along nicely first half and then second half press panic button

Is Watts got it in his contract he must play every game ? He was like a fish out of water !!!

Have to agree. Watts was ropey, very heavy passing and kicking the corner flag was Sunday league stuff.

I really really really don’t feel comfortable with 3 at the back. Saw Cuthbert and Nugent digging each other out a few times because of bad positioning.

But fuck it, it’s a win, we deserved that

Edit: And Charlie Carter is a big talent. Who says Leon Hunter can’t pick a player!?

I agree, We had to make 2 injury subs. The replacements were given a chance by MS, I fear they may have messed up their opportunity.

As for Byron i think was brought on because MS feared a repeat of the 1st goal as Grimsby saw their opportunity and pushed men over to our right side. On reflection taking Cowley off was a mistake but he is new to league 2 and 90 mins is still a big ask. The obvious replacement is Newton but not sure of his fitness tbf. Looking at the bench not sure there were too many better (or fully fit) options.

Fielding needs encouragement and work on an increase in his pace. Sonupe also a confidence player, needs to Knuckle down and cover & support our defenders whilst using his pace to offer a route out when under pressure.

As the '1st XI' return to fitness and MS gets to understand his squad, then we will be able to judge his decisions better.

Small but positive steps on Saturday. Well done to the lads and hopefully a corner has been turned

COYB

Cowley didn't have his best game and was bullied out the game a bit. I didn't have a problem with him coming off, and you're right Newton would've been ideal to come on then, my issue was the change of shape resulting from the sub.

We're still a little light on the bench. Fielding for Luther wasn't ideal. In an ideal world we would've replaced Cowley with Newton.

I trust Sampson will learn, i think he just wanted to get over the line!

Only 1 defeat in 5 for us now.

Up the Sampson!

This formation is night and day better for us. We look so much more capable of winning the ball back when we dont have it, and it looks so much more of a solid shape.

Plus we can still attack in good numbers, and we look a lot more patient when we get into the opposing half.

Looking good, so far.
