From last night, Simeon Jackson clattered in Hess in the very first minute and left him in agony. He has a fractured rib, punctured lung and ligament damage to his shoulder. All Jackson got was a finger wagging from the ref.

https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/grimsby-town-hessenthaler-injury-update-3790596
He will most likely miss the rest of the season, and just to rub it in he is out contract at the end of the season.

In the second half one of your players clattered into our centre half as he jumped to head it with no chance of getting the ball. Again only a free kick. Fortunately he was all right on this occasion.

I've seen this before with teams managed by him and he likes his players to "put it about".

As for our penalty, I agree it looked a bit soft, but the linesman was very close to it and he raised his flag straight away. He must have seen something we all didn't.

As for the free kick, I was side on and it looked like he threw himself over our defenders leg trying to buy a free kick rather than it was a foul.

Enjoy non league next year, don't think you have what it takes to turn it around and your manager is a bell end of the highest order.

I was going to argue but have just watched the replay. It certainly looked worse from the other side of the pitch than I remembered at the time, and probably warranted a yellow.

Simeon Jackson has been round the block and I would certainly never have him down as a dirty player.

Looking at all those injuries in that one incident does rather suggest that it was down to the fall though.

Jacksons knee was waist high catching Hess in his chest. Out of control and dangerous.

Nowadays you can be booked for lunging in even if you completely miss the player, as it is deemed to be dangerous and risks injury.

Just to show how incompetent the ref was he booked Clarke for taking his shirt off and showing a message of support for Jordan Sinnott, the murdered footballer. Clarke was a mate of Sinnott.

The video of the tackle was on Twitter and Facebook but it has since been removed. Strange.

"Just to show how incompetent the ref was he booked Clarke for taking his shirt off."

Taking your shirt off is a bookable offence. End of subject. The rest is irrelevant. It's like saying a late tackle doesn't warrant a yellow card because it was accidental.

I'm not shocked, though, as we've established before with your cretinous fanbase; it's never your fault and you're all just victims.

Booking a player for removing their shirt is the opposite of incompetent, it is in the laws of the game and so the ref was absolutely spot on to do so, regardless of the reason behind it.

By all means have a go at the law, but the law is in place and all officials must follow it. They cannot start deciding which laws they agree with and officiate games based on their own views.

I thought it looked pretty horrid but as he seemed to go with his knee rather than studs didn't expect more than a yellow. I see blokes get up and walk away from proper two-footed leg breakers at least once a season so there you are.

There was the video of the incident on Facebook, from a Twitter account but it has mysteriously disappeared, and I don't do Twitter.

From watching it Jackson jumps into Hess with his knee above waist high. Cannot see how it can be anything else but dangerous.

Poor Hess's season is finished and is out of contract. What a way to finish it. He might be fit enough to leave hospital today.

Didnt see much wrong with the first minute challenge. Two players just running into each other, not our fault yours is built of glass.

When we had a free kick your number 10 stood in front of the ball so it couldnt be taken, our player pushed him back, he kicked the ball from its spot about 10 yards. The ref let it go.

You won, there was no malice in the game.

Sorry but his injuries would suggest it's a bit more than a shoulder charge. From where I was, on the halfway line it was more into his back than side so didn't see him coming, very dangerous (I haven't seen a replay).

I don't think gor a minute he really meant to hurt him like he has, but such challenges should warrant more than the refs finger in your face to stop other challenges like the one on Pollock in the second half.

Hess has been a really good player for us this season and doesn't deserve to be out for the rest of the season. He certainly isn't made of glass as you suggest.

I agree with you he was shite. We've had him before and was bad then. He didn't have control of the game and let a lot go, which made our penalty look laughable.

Incidentally who was your big guy with the ponytail? He tried to ref the game and did more moaning at the ref than play football. A competent ref would have warned him and then book him if he continued.

The saddest thing about last night was the boring predictability of it all. Sounded like we were the better side from the radio comms, but couldn't quite score. Once they scored heads dropped, people lost faith and we never looked like getting back into the game.

I lost faith after the Port Vale game at home and the majority of what has happened since has only strengthened that impression :-(

I watched the "highlights" over lunch. Dear god the defending for that first goal. They slipped it out left and we'd left an entire quarter of the pitch empty for them to do whatever they liked. Where was the left back/left midfielder?!? They right back had an age to control and cross the ball. The defending at the back post from Luther wasn't good enough to stop the goal, but the entire failure to stop or even challenge the cross was criminally poor.

That penalty award would have been hilarious if it hadn't been awarded against us. What the hell were they thinking?!? They're lucky it had no bearing on the outcome of the game really...

You say that the penalty had no bearing but it was at a crucial point. Much like the first half we were at a point where we had started the 2nd half well, were putting on pressure and you felt there was a chance of an equaliser. When that went in, it effectively ended the game.

We had to be more attacking and leave ourselves more open plus the belief of actually getting anything from the game had gone.

In isolation you'd say we were unlucky but since this keeps happening all season it points to some greater power at work.

I feel genuinely sad.

I've been pissed off after most of our games this season, with a couple of exceptions. We have been frustratingly bad all season. We have a few (and I mean a few) good pieces, but those around them really are awful. We have no creativity whatsoever in the final third. None of the players know how to pick a pass and they just hammer the ball into the defenders. It has been painful to watch.

But tonight my anger and frustration has just been replaced with sadness. I think our day in the sun has finally ended, and we seem destined to take our place back where, in all fairness, we probably belong. We haven't been able to build the fanbase, despite several (both good and bad) attempts and our time has finally run out.

I've witnessed relegation before, albeit last time was in the flesh. I remember the feeling, standing on the terraces after losing 3-2 to MK Dons, knowing that we were going down. At least with that season we put up something of a fight, and up until that game, I genuinely thought we had a chance.

For the majority of this season, I have clung onto hope that we might turn it around, but we never, ever looked like we would. As much as the 4-0 win against Cambridge was a great result, we did nothing to build on that, and looking back, I think that was largely down to how bad Cambridge were, rather than an indication that we had turned a corner.

I am fearful that this relegation could be catastrophic for us. I won't be entirely surprised if Wallace walks away, and the potential for a crack-pot Chairman to come in fills me with dread. I can only see us going backwards from here, and I think we will struggle to compete, even in the Conference.

If I were Wallace, I would pull out the cheque book, pay the compensation to get rid of every single player we don't want to have around, and plunge money into us signing some extra players. I don't usually condone panic buying, but I don't see the point in us just rolling over and resigning to being relegated. Cassidy and Dabo have both been quality additions, so I trust our scouting team, but we need more. We need to get rid of those not good enough and replace them with players who are.

Even then, I still can't sit here and say that I genuinely believe we will stay up. There will be a glimmer of hope right up until it's mathematically over, but that's all it is, a glimmer.

It was good while it lasted, lads.

Everything in your post is correct.

For 10 years, let's be honest, we've been pinching ourselves, that we are a league club. As the big names have rolled into town and come unstuck at the Lamex, we have all enjoyed dining out in their reputations. Seeing the embarrassed hordes from illustrious names, trudge back across Broadhall way, shaking their heads, we've chuckled to ourselves. And celebrating at places like Portsmouth and Sheffield Wed, in total disbelief, it's been an amazing fairytale.

But we committed the cardinal sin. We all bounded up to Salford, on a balmy August day, thinking we had something special, when in reality, he'd left, returning to QPR, after papering over the cracks and fooling us all.

Our time has indeed come. No matter who is in charge, years of underfunding proper goalscorers, has finally bitten back. We are just not good enough. Plain and simple. We will now drop back down to whence we came. We still have all those wonderful memories of over achievement from years gone by.

I'm gonna accept it now, stop the hope from killing me every Saturday, light a cigar and enjoy seeing out our final curtain call at this level. I suggest you all do the same and save yourselves any further heartache. Every good thing has to end, ours is ending in front of our eyes, right now.

What a drama queen

If, and it's fucking January so it's by no means guaranteed, but if we were to go down, we're not going to be playing back over King Georges, we're not going out of business. We'd be one of the best run clubs in the National League and one of the best run clubs to go down, we'd be one of the best supported, we'd still be full time, we'd be one of the favourites to come back up again.

Have a day off

We haven't always agreed but I do on this 100% . This this has been my fear and still is.
RDB doesn't like PW but it may get a lot worse.

Our sister New Town Harlow Town is of a similar population (and near WHU), play in the Isthmian south central (currently 11th) and got just 185 through the gate on Saturday. They haven't found a sugar daddy Chairman so where does RDB think we will to replace PW.?

Testing times ahead with NO rewards of a contract next season if we fail (GW included).

I think someone said we needed to win 6 games to give us half a chance of staying up...

Our most winnable games are Orient, Morcambe, Scunthorpe, Oldham, Macclesfield and Carlisle (6).

We'd then be relying on Morcambe getting fewer than 14 points (4 wins, 2 draws) and/or Macclesfield getting fewer than 12 (4 wins).

Of the 'winnable' games listed above, Morcambe play Macclesfield, Orient, Scunthorpe and Carlisle (4). Macclesfield play Orient, Morcambe, Carlisle and Scunthorpe (4) - the same 3 teams that aren't each other.

Based on that, you could argue that we have an easier run in, but we are relying on the crap teams listed losing to us and beating the teams that are seemingly less shit than we are...

Edit: I am fully aware we can't exactly sign superstars, but come on. And this bunch of players were decent enough at taking the lead in games and picking up points just before GW returned to, erm, save us.

I very much like the look of Dabo so far, and although I didn’t know Cassidy his debut at Cambridge gave me hope, as did Jackson’s experience (his neat cross in for Carter’s goal against Plymouth could be an example). Parkhouse seems to know where the goal is - certainly if played properly - so I’ll give him a chance too and hope we know how to use him. But yeah, the games since Cambridge haven’t exactly seen us turn it around, I admit.

What? It’s just tiresome that every time we do something decent the manager is ok (whichever manager) and every time we lose he’s shit and we should have kept the other one. I’ve more faith in GW than I had in Sampson but that doesn’t mean he’s blameless. The consistent changing of the side is already becoming frustrating, but, the whole pro/anti Westley stance after every game is tiresome. I think we’ve got to stick with this lot until the end of the season, hope we can get enough points to stay up and start again. With 16 games left I’m not giving up yet, whoever is in charge.

We get the ball in promising positions often, and they just whack it. It's like they don't take a second to think about what they're doing. Everything is so rushed and so aimless. So many 50/50 balls instead of playing a simple pass. It's infuriating.

Correct me on this if I'm wrong but didn't the Club put together a fundraising package that yielded £1.5 million that was to be "invested" specifically on the playing budget.

What has happened to it? Please don't tell me that it's all gone on the total shower that we have wearing the badge at present.

After all the effort that's gone in this past year it's a real kick in the teeth if it ends up with relegation.

The commentary tonight is as crap as the team - I wish they would describe the actual game. No idea of what is happening.

And now Morecambe are winning. We are well adrift of others. How does GW talk his way out of this.

No urgency from anyone playing - shambolic yet again from a game we simply had to win

Agree with you about Nugent and Wildin. Now it's obvious that we're desperate for wins if I was the opposition manager I'd set my team up in a defensive formation and just hoof the ball up knowing that octopus Nugent will cock it up or Wildin will be hopelessly out of position.

Wildin's positioning isn't even the biggest problem - it's his inability to use his feet. He either miscontrols the ball, passes it out of play, overruns the ball when someone passes to him, or jut whacks it straight at the player in front of him.
