Catch 22.

Just throwing this out there.
Before this season's shit storm hit I regularly heard on here about how good it is that Wallace is running a reasonably financial stable club. This has been ok for us most of the time. Unfortunately we are now more than ever before in the league 2 era of some seriously overspending clubs that are living on a money tightrope.
I'm not saying what route we should have taken or if this has contributed to our crap performance, but maybe Philip's tight ship has been a contribution? A gamble that might cost him more in the long run?
Damned if he does!, damned if he doesn't.

Perhaps if PW had spent more money on a decent L2/L1 manager and a smaller but stronger squad of about 18- 22 players rather than the cheaper large squad we would not have got into this mess. I was concerned when we were signing players at the 11 hour of the summer window. All have proved to be a waste of money sadly.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone knows what the players are making unless you are directly involved with paying them.

These players are at the club because Dino, then westley, wanted them to be. The manager gets a budget to spend, and it’s up to him and his management team to determine how to spend it.

hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think we have assembled a squad of decent players that have made a woeful team for whatever reason. I’m not qualified to tell you why that is, but if I was doing this all over again Groundhog Day style, I would still pick Farman, digby, nugent, cuthbert, carter, dabo, lakin, list, Leesley, Cassidy, tvc and kemp in our squad. That’s the crazy thing in this whole scenario

The list you’ve given just shows that you can assemble a squad of (in your opinion) good players but the sum of the parts is more important than the individual players.

FWIW to me Farman is the only player who deserves any credit this term. Cuthbert probably would too but has been injured/probably not fully fit for a lot of it.

We don’t have a squad of decent players though. Ask yourself, of those listed, when compared with some of the previous players we have had, how many would you actually take? I’d suggest one or two at most

I just told you. If I was starting this season again I would have those players in my squad. Comparing players in any one year against handpicked players over a multitude of years is disingenuous.

The recruitment has clearly been an issue, but I imagine no one will be fired for that failure.

What are you talking about?
Two people have been fired that were directly related to building this squad. That’s the reason we now have a 4th person at the helm

Leon Hunter. Fucking hell. This is the worst squad in 15 years. A bloated waste of money. Costing a fortune. Quite probably fucking up everything PW has built. He must have pictures of Little Phil in an embarrassing bottom

In my (admittedly limited) understanding, the head of recruitment puts forward names, and gets the deals done, but it’s the management team that is responsible for the final say on the players and building the squad.

Even Wallace, no doubt advised by Leon Hunter, is in on recruitment and is probably more hands on it that department than is good for the club. Would any proper manager put up with that?

Due respect, but I don’t think you have any idea what you are talking about.

I’m generally interested to know how and where you have acquired the evidence to justify that claim. It’s something I’d also like to read up on.

If you ever bump into one of our ex managers in a services costa and they know you well , maybe they will let you know Leon is far more involved in the final recruitment than you may be giving him credit for allegedly perhaps

Well that's the way people find out what happens within football clubs. They're not going to go onto a clubs fans forum and write it all out are they?
