Just been reading about us in the telegraph. I can’t hide my excitement for the fact I think we’ll stay up due to the virus. However, financially things look very worrying. I hope there can be a way where the football club pulls off an investment from somewhere...

1) all leagues from the Prem to Conf North/South are still saying they want to finish the season at the moment

2) the Government are paying 80% of our wages so we can't be too much in the shit. Admittedly, still paying 20% (unless the staff agree to waive it) and nothing coming in isn't great

Don't believe there has been any confirmation that it is applicable for footballers, has there?

It can be used for our other staff, should we decide to go down that route. Although it could perhaps be argued that any Foundation staff engaged in the Community Careline are still carrying out Foundation duties on behalf of the Foundation, which would void any furloughing and see the club not receive the money from the Government.

Why would it not apply to footballers wages? They're employees who cannot do their jobs.

To furlough someone you have to check their contract allows it or if not that they agree it.

Once furloughed, in order to qualify for the 80% reimbursement the employees cannot carry out any duties for at least 3 weeks. It appears ours are still carrying out duties albeit not footballing ones.

We may well have furloughed some staff.

The club doesn't have to pay the difference (20%) but can choose to. Also, for footballers 80% is likely to be more than the cap of £2500. So players will be on that, I imagine, if furloughed.

Yes, ours are now volunteering, but that shouldn't stop this covering wages, although as you say, it's only up to £30k a year equivalent so most will be on lower than 80%

I've not looked into details of full time employed vs time defined contract staff, but not seen it raised 'what about contractors', which you'd think it would be by now

Because every club and chairman is suggesting it doesn't.

Presumably for the same reason Barnet were going to make every staff member redundant bar the players, because you cannot legally end a player's contract early without their agreement, unlike normal jobs.

That's because it's in every clubs interest to make out it's a problem so they get support.

Barnet did that before the Govt wages cover, and have now said it's sorted them

That backs up exactly what I said.

They were going to make their non-playing staff redundant, they now are not because they can be furloughed.

They could not make their playing staff redundant because football contracts are unique. For the same reason it appears players might not be able to be furloughed. Many clubs have said this. This is why players are deferring payments or accepting paycuts instead.

I don't think voluntary work counts, a bar I ended up on the mailing list for has said they've furloughed their staff and invited them to do the NHS volunteering.

To put things in perspective, it was a very well-written, positive article about Phil and a club that is well run and lives within its means, that has immediately leapt to the aid of the local community. Nonetheless even well-run clubs like ours will start to feel the pain of income streams drying up, but the outgoings continue.

Very good publicity for Phil and the club, with well over half a page of coverage and a good photo.

Hang on a sec, this conversation has come up multiple times over the last week, people saying they’d be over the moon if we stayed up because of this. And you choose to comment that now, but not to others?

Obviously it’s very sad what’s happening now! If news comes out over the next few weeks that we are staying up, I’m sure loads will be chuffed.

Firstly. Leave my son out of this he had nothing to do with it. That was a joke I put on here that you'd booked up the seats. It was obviously a joke so let's not accuse people of lying over that. Secondly I don't recall ever having had a pop at Reece about anything. I may have aired something he has put in the past that I don't agree with but I wouldn't say I've had a go at him.
