Bostwick , Pett & Shackell ( who hails from Stevenage) apparently released by Lincoln.Cannot see them back with us for obvious reasons.

Aside from anything else, there’s not a hope Pett would come back to us. He got slaughtered by most fans every week. I remember a cheer when got substituted once. We’d be the last place he’d want to go.

Some of our fans are Idiots.

His performances never warranted some of the criticism he got. People expected him to perform miracles so despite being better than a lot of players we had, because his expectations were set higher he would get more criticism.

Or were his expectations set higher, because he never progressed while he was here, and maybe people used Luke Freeman (and his progression as a flair player) as a comparison.

Well I am surprised our fans want them back, that doesn't usually happen with every single player who ever played for us.

Living in history, not making it.

I wouldn't. Wouldn't want to ruin the memory by putting him in a struggling shit team.

I'd have Pett back though. He doesn't have the same God-like reputation to ruin and could be useful as we haven't had a winger since he left (and rarely had one when he was here as they kept playing him centrally)

I’d like to think a lot of the dross will be moved on by next season.

My thought on bringing back former players is to ignore what they’ve done here before to an extent and judge them on what they can do and bring to the squad now. Bostwick is a different player now, a centre-back rather than midfielder for a start but by the sounds of it the Lincoln fans are sad to see him being released. That tells me he could do a job here. If our fans could accept that we were bringing back a different player then he would be a good addition. The mental attributes that we know and love of course would still remain hopefully. I think his return is highly unlikely, even if he drops to our level a club with bigger financial clout will probably win his signature.

I believe Pett spent a lot of time in the middle at Lincoln too, maybe he is a central midfielder/number 10 of sorts... if we were getting the same Pett we let go we’d be getting a player that would walk in to the team now (that’s more a comment on our current squad than on Pett). He may well have improved at Lincoln. He’d be a decent squad player without a doubt, maybe more than that.

I want all of our ex-players back, regardless of how long it has been since they left, whether or not they are the same player, and regardless of the reasons they are now without a club.

Always go back I say.

No I wouldn't want him back. Similar thoughts to Sev. Bossie is not the up and down dominant midfield controller he was. He is a different player now (and often plays in a position I feel we are currently not too bad in and haven't had a huge problem with this season, we have far bigger issues on the pitch).

Our fans (in general) seem to be in a time warp whenever discussing players and think all of those who played for us ten years ago when in our and their prime, are still the same players now. They are not. Likewise with always wanting to go back to the same managers over and over again. We can look outside the club and have a bit of originality. Look forwards rather than backwards all the time.

Also, wanting them purely because they are a bit better than this season's squad is pointless as almost all of this season's squad will be gone anyway, so you would hope we can get better players.

Bozzie just permanently stationing himself twenty five yards from goal and shooting on sight would probably have seen him as top scorer for us this season.

I’d have Bossie back in a heartbeat. But I feel maybe his release there has something to do with the current state of the world rather than football.

Shackell I don’t know enough about to comment with any authority. Seems like a decent player but is 36. Say he was to line up in defence with Cuthbert, that isn’t a very mobile partnership.

Pett is a strange one. I wasn’t too bothered when he left but then realised just how bad things could get with the current crop we have. I wonder if he has become a better player for playing at a higher level and under different managers. I’d have a punt on him if the deal was right financially.

You don't need mobile when you can read the game like Cuthbert.

Imagine having Bossie and Joel back in midfield, like the old days.

Promotions galore!
