No.

He has been playing in the lower reaches of the conference for the last couple of seasons. He isn’t a good enough player for our aspirations now. This is a prime example of not going back for the sake of going back. I have no issue with us re-signing former players but only if they can do a job for the team now.

To be honest I think the only player that would be worth getting back and being able to do a decent job for the team is Michael Bostwick.

I’d just like a competent team for a start too.

I see them as very different types of player.

I know Pett played centrally a lot but I'd have him as a winger. Small, skilful and pacey.

Carter is more of a physical presence, like to get forward and knack of getting the ball in space around the box and scoring goals.

I see Pett crossing the balls for Carter to get on the end of.

I don't think I would describe Carter as a physical presence.

I also wouldn't describe Pett as pacey.

I said "more of a" as in when compared to Pett. He's 6ft something.

Pett has a burst of pace, or did, when needed. Not lightning quick, but able to turn and go quickly.

Carter has the best first touch of any player i've seen in a Boro shirt. He can jump like Ronaldo too.

Glad to have him next season.

I’d take Pett back. He hasn’t got a legacy to ruin here and he should be a better player than the one we let go.

From what I remember he had a good work ethic and his effort was never called into question. He is capable of playing on the wing and that’s where I’d utilise him mainly. He isn’t fast but he isn’t slow either. He has the technical nous to play wide too.

While I don’t see him as a similar player to Carter if he were to play in the middle it would be in the same position Carter plays. Therefore they couldn’t play in the middle together.

He can play wide or centrally in an advanced role. He is a good team player. If the opportunity arose to have him as a squad player on the right deal I’d take it.

Have to agree. Steve Berry was re-signed by us in the late 90's after being our captain in 95/96, the year we should have gained promotion but come 98/99 he was only half the player unfortunately. Laurie was a great player for us back in the day but not the player he once was.

Saw him in the FA Cup Enfield v Ebbesfleet last November, playing right back.

Decent on the ball and just as athletic as before.

Would be 34yo, has he been injury prone in recent seasons? If not probably worth a punt for a season.

I think Lawrie is one that would tarnish his last spell here if he came back. Looking good against a part-time team in the Isthmian Premier is all well and good but I don’t think he’s what we need for a season at the sharp end (hopefully) of the National League.

Otherwise we start going down the route of, Ronnie played well for Billericay last season, let’s have him back too. And before you know it a whole load of legacies have been ruined and the club slips further down the league.

Would only have him back as backup and a bit of experience in a dressing room, that will probably end up on the young side. Another caveat would be that he's prepared to come on the cheap and not want a fortune.

With his pedigree, he could be a useful backup on the right wing or at right back at conference level. But only if fit.

Otherwise, I agree, wouldn't want him tarnishing his previous time with us.

With the two forwards we have just added, not playing wingers, would be a serious schoolboy error, if we have any designs on promotion.
