At least now they won’t be stealing anymore chants, passing it off as their own creation and hyping up a bang average L1 striker as though he’s world class.

Read the EFL statement. The points deduction is determined. Then it is applied to the season it has most impact. So if Wigan already down without deduction , the deduction is applied in league 1 . This is totally inconsistent with the Macclesfield finding where they say oh no we can’t be harsh as it might relegate them. This time the EFL saying if it relegates them then tough. Bring on the lawyers Phil.

If the Grimsby article just now posted in the Macclesfield thread is anything to go by then PW mught have some backinh.

For the Grimsby Chairman to be saying more points should have been deducted is quite something.

Considering I suspect we will see lots of clubs in Wigan's situation I should think the EFL would be doing their best to keep Stevenage in their league.

It's the EFL.

They'll choose the course of action that requires the least intervention from themselves.

Hopefully the EFL suspended the point to next season, just incase it might mean they're relegated like.

Wouldn’t that be worse? I mean if they can claw it back, they’ll still be relegated but won’t have the deduction next year. They’ve won their last 3 I think I read...

Problem we have though is have not they suspended some more points deduction to next season ? So in effect unless they breach the conditions, which of course they will, it does not help us ?

I can’t really see how a 12 point deduction as an automatic penalty for going into administration, given to a team in the Championship helps us anyway?

I assume the rationale is the punishment is so now supposed to hurt clubs the most.So in this scenario even though at end of season Wigan may be safe if deduction then relegates them it will apply now.
So I also assume people on here are saying Macclesfield should be punished more this season being if they do not pay the fine, provide an acceptable financial plan or trigger the suspended points incurred (think they got more points suspended ?).

I think we should distinguish between the EFL and the panel that imposed the points decision on Macclesfield.

In this case the EFL rules says a 12 point penalty (etc) as the punishment.

In Macclesfield case it was not the EFL that imposed the penalty. It was referred to an independent panel to decide upon the penalty as EFL regulation dont have specific guidelines for all the various circumstances. The panel's decision is binding, but the EFL can appeal it.

My argument with the relevance of the Wigan case is if there are EFL rules for how one set of rules should be applied and the panel come to a conclusion in direct contradiction to those EFL rules you would hope the EFL had sense to question that decision.

Plus of course the other common sense reason that the effect of the penalty shouldn't be considered on a subjective basis. It should be based on the offence.

That’s a clear reason why the EFL will argue the scenarios are quite different. You’re wasting your time pointing it out on here.

So if the EFL doesn't appeal, then the club's can get together at the AGM and challenge it/overturn it?

As they will have been paid by Govt Furlough money it would be outrageously stupid for them not to have been. But you never know with that dodgy bloke they have in charge.

Think there was a tweet saying May's wages were paid on time – possibly after their supporters' trust decided they could live without £10k.
