Whilst, arguably, this is a positive step for Macclesfield for the future, it should have no bearing whatsoever on the appeal hearing and outcome in respect of their status as a football league club.

They have shut the stable door but the horse has long gone. The appeal is not about the future, it is not even about the finding of guilt. It is about behaviour during the 2019/20 season, wholly predicated on the entirely reasonable argument that the punishment imposed did not punish them in any meaningful way, the points deduction cost them no money, nor their FL status.

I don't have any confidence that the frame of reference won't just be changed to suit the outcome a second time.

Yes it’s all very typical.

It’ll be akin to Jimmy Savile passes away and so no one really has to face any serious questions at the BBC and they can continue to run as normal and no major/fatal penalties.

Yes they’ll say it’ll never happen again and that they did still technically survive the drop despite the punishments and points deductions they “accepted”. Completely glossing over the fact that if a club / a business is not in a position to run legitimately (and metaphorically writing cheques they can’t cash) they should not be participating. Affecting the position of other clubs and wasting everyone’s time.

Logic and common sense often have nothing to do with court cases and legal battles. So they will get away with it and, yes although we were dismal as a football team last season, technically Macclesfield should have be kicked out. By default that would mean we stay up. But life is not fair like that!

Writing's on the wall. Owner steps down as chairman, so they can pretend the club will now be run correctly and reassure everyone going forward Mac will be run as a competent business.

I now expect their business plan to be passed by the EFL and the Independent panel to increase their fine, but no extra points deduction. Window dressing in the extreme by the EFL, heading off any legal challenge we might have made.

Relegation confirmation incoming, which, as we've all admitted, is deserved for our on field performances.

What a waste of everyone's time.

But in theory these are seperate issues

The EFL appeal is re points deductions for last season and in addition they want to be sure of their financial status for next season.

On the latter does not really matter to us as even if they go bust it will not save us.

The creation of the business plan was part of the judgement delivered with the points deduction(or lack of it) , so that is why I think they will link them to the final judgement

If their business plan failed and/or if they failed to pay the £20,000 fine, then, technically they should be relegated, as these were all stipulated in the original decision.

I think the EFL have appealed, just to head off any legal challenge from Phil, hence this exercise has been a smokescreen from the start.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread if they have paid the fine ( I doubt it) this alsomaybe viewed as paying creditors out of preference whilst maybe being insolvent. In other words it probably gone to HMRC.

Good timing......

So they don't need his money from overseas, so begs the question why haven't they paid their staff on time?
