When I started supporting Stevenage we had plain red shirts.

I much prefer the diagonals as this creates a unique identity in English football.

We have changed our kit design so many times and some of them pretty awful, there is no reason to stick with vertical stripes or mainly white tops,

Create an identity and a brand and stop faffing about.

I like the diagonals, but presumably if you have something that bold and fairly unique it is harder for horrible kit manufacturers like Macron to make tiny hideous adjustments on an annual basis? We simply must change the kit annually because... everyone else does? It makes nearly 1.5k a year and that could have sorted Kurtis Gutless for a week’s money????

So apart from selling more shirts, bringing in loads of money, giving the club more publicity, and helping the club become known worldwide, it was a bad move because a few people don’t like the logo?

It is true. Some people who would have bought shirts, didn't due to the logo. Therefore, some sales were lost. That cannot be seen by overall sales figures. I never referred to or implied sales figures.

Ok, so I went back to read this thread to see what all the bitching was about...

This post literally makes no sense.

You're saying it cost shirt sales. But you're also saying it can't be seen by the overall sales figures. Presumably because our overall sales were higher? So... you're arguing that it cost shirt sales, but also.. didn't?

Who cares if John Doe from Stevenage doesn't buy the shirt because he doesn't like the logo if Juan Duo from Puerto Rico and his 3 mates buy one instead because they're playing as Stevenage on FIFA because of the Burger King promotion? I know you like to think that the club would care more about John Doe because he's a LOYAL SUPPORTER but, bottom line, shirt sales are shirt sales, it doesn't matter who buys them.

You've literally argued against your own argument, so I can see why Paulio is trying to wind you up. You're insisting on sticking with an argument that makes no sense whatsoever.

I think the point he was trying to make was that some people didn't buy it because of the BK logo. However a lot more did buy it because of the tie in and promotions, a lot more than were put off by it.

I understand.

But its a stupid point.

Cos who cares if a few people don't like it, if, at the end of the day, our sales are up? Especially since the reason for not liking the kit is a stupid one.

We literally had a kit which had a ketchup and mustard design on it, but if our sales went up, I honestly couldn't give a toss.

Club and a group of fans discussed this after the #StevenageForLeagueFootball shirt happened.
Designs were put to the club, and one settled on around May(ish).
Someone on the outside of the discussions, but aware of them went and made one of their own, and got it ready to announce before the club were able to. The club were aware of this other effort whilst working on the official one.

Neither of them particular appeal to me. I prefer the club one, although difficult to know with only a drawing of it. The unofficial one is more truer to the 1996 shirt design.

However the one point I would say is I dont see it as particularly retro. The design feels modern and we had a similar kit a few years ago.

I wanted diagonal to be our current and continued design. I think the 1996 one is popular because it was ahead of its time.

If I was doing a retro shirt I'd have gone with the one before.

I actually think that's a fair price, for what is a really nice shirt. It has the old badge too which is nice. Not having a sponsor on it makes it timeless, and therefore better value. The same as when you buy an England shirt.

Cambridge did two last season, a 76/77 one and a 91/93 one. They're £45.

I don' think £39.99 is outrageous, although it's higher than I'd expected.

That's the long and the short of it.

Bit disappointing that there's anti-climax to the release now because the other one has been released first, it looks like the club are jumping on board but they aren't and they've had to rush the release rather than getting it out properly.

Whatever though, buy it if you want it, don't if you don't.

I might buy the official one to support the club.

As a supporter, it's kind of a bad move to undermine what the club are trying to do by releasing your own version, even if it is for charity.

In fact, if they were just trying to make some quick cash, I'd understand it more. Loads of people make unofficial merch to line their own pockets. But to do it and then give away the profits just doesn't make sense to me.

Anyways, that's just my opinion.

Wish the badge said "borough" but otherwise it looks nice

Once the unofficial one was announced, waiting a week, two weeks or two months was still going to look like the club were jumping on a bandwagon.

Sorry mate. Honestly, if I'd have thought about it I would have sought out a high res one with the Borough on it.

That's not to say the club would've used that badge though

It’s a nice idea all round anyway.
Hopefully both the shirts do well and it can be developed next year for some new ideas!

In this day and age I'd like the option to buy a top with the old badge on it, understand the need for change for digital reasons but that doesn't mean they can't do them with the sewn badges still like they are for this one.

This shirt will have the old badge embroidered. It's something we put our foot down on. The only part missing is the "Borough" from the badge. I don't expect the club would have allowed the Borough to remain.

Shit timing with the unofficial retro shirt coming out a couple of days ago.

It looks like a desperate attempt from the club after they've realised someone beat them to the idea!

£40 for a T shirt is not good value. I know the club need money, but £40, really?

£25 for a similarly limited edition T shirt with all profits going to a mental health charity nominated by the foundation however....

Official one looks far better though.

Shame this whole situation has come about. Something the fans have been pining for for years and then two are released at once, which either intentionally or not are now competing with each other.

Thanks. The design went through a dozen or more versions before this one was chosen.

The situation is very disappointing.

Yep.

Could the club have trademarked the red diagonals? Not sure you can do so retrospectively mind.

Does the unofficial one use the club crest or a near identical version deliberately intended to represent SFC? Is that not the clubs IPR?

Could get messy yet. Haven't we got a QC on the board?

Really disappointing and doesn't reflect well on the charity shirt. Shame.

Does the unofficial one use the club crest

The unofficial uses the original 1980 crest or a design very similar.

I think.

It is a hart inside a circle with 19 and 76 either side.

I think it's just a separate design, nothing like the original crest.
