Cumming - 7 - looked good

Wildin - 8 - looked a threat going forward, wasnt troubled defensively. Great goal at a crucial time (just after missing a penalty, could have given Oldham a boost)
Cuthbert - 7 - standard performance.
Prosser - 7 - scored a good header but also missed one.
Hutton - 6 - they threatened down his side, he did ok though.

Osborne - 7 - good goal
Read - 8 - controlled our play
Smith - 7 - did well

List - 8 - looked sharp, an assist and some shots.
Newton - 7 - didnt notice much until 2nd half where he pressed defenders well
Effiong - 7 - couldve been more but missed a pen.

Agree with all of that. Was really surprised Osborne got MOM, especially with how well Read played. I thought Osborne was actually quite poor for the first 20 minutes, but he definitely improved. Read was the clear standout for me, along with LJW.

First half was a bit like last season, where you thought the opposition were crap but we didn't really do anything, so was expecting to see out a draw against a poor side.

How I was wrong. Second half we came out and put together lots of nice play and patterns and the goal was coming and it did. As soon as the first went in we just continued to press and attack. Some of it didn't quite come off but that will come with time.

Should have been 6 or 7 in the end and didn't look too threatened at the other end.

A good point away from home and a convincing win at home, albeit against side I expect to be near the bottom.

Weird feeling not being disappointed on a Saturday.

Osborne

Newton wins the ball on the right, plays in List who nicely cuts the ball back for Osborne to side foot the ball into the bottom left corner.

We are putting them under a lot of pressure now. Need to capitalize and add a second.

I was starting to get annoyed just before that goal as Oldham were fully there for the taking and our poor final ball kept costing us.

A couple of minutes before the opener for instance we had Smith with two men to pull the ball back to and if he picks out either they likely bury it, but his ball was between them so chance wasted, and then Newton should have scored from the keeper parrying Hutton's shot almost straight afterwards.

The goal was delightful and shows how dangerous we are this season. Attacking with pace and intent, and actually getting numbers forward to support the attack, when it clicks it is a joy and so hard to defend against. List was brilliant again. He is going to be an absolutely vital player for us this season, already got one goal and three assists in three games.

And best of all, as with last week when we fell behind and actually kept going to get something out of it, the fact we kept in attacking relentlessly having taken the lead was so pleasing. Think how many points we have thrown away the past couple of seasons on the few occasions we took the lead by then sitting back and being punished. The mentality and the attacking prowess of this team is already completely different to last season. So happy to see it.

Now we go to Bradford, who have had a slow start to the season, and had two players sent off today so will be suspended.

Edit: Whillst delighted we won, it doesn't feel like a proper win though having not been there. I would have been buzzing after that if in the ground but feel pleased but a bit meh about it. We really need to get back into the grounds soon :(

I got back to the ground today. Cycled over there and saw Prosser’s goal through the gap in the gate. That was until an toothless crone in a stewards tabard told me to move away as I wasn’t allowed to look through the gate. (I am, I was on the footpath). But the whole thing does feel very surreal without the crowds.

Oh we're still arguing this point?

There were 3 times first half when we pressed where Newton ran to close down the left CB and the pass to the other CB was still on because Effiong wasn't getting close enough quickly enough, whether it was because he wasn't switched on or wasn't quick enough doesn't matter. It made Newton's press less impactive. A more joined up 3 person press would have forced the rushed long ball.

Yes of course there were other occasions where he pressed effectively.

That doesn't mean his other attributes don't make up for it. We won, it doesn't matter. (But I watched for it and I was right).

He never pressed because it appeared that he was instructed not to. Instead his job appeared to be cutting off the balls into the midfield. He did press, on occasion when the front three wasn't all in their set pressing pattern, so never is a bit of an exaggeration, but I thought it was pretty evident that his role in the front three isn't to press the way List and Newton did. I thought he did a great job doing what he was doing.

Much better distance now.

Still a bit slow moving when there are quick balls.

Also, non cameraman related, when ball goes high in front of north stand it's hard to see it in the many white seats.

Yeah, I don't remember there being a problem seeing the ball against the North stand in that game either. (was it cloudy? Really can't remember)

I'm all for him giving the young'uns a run, but I really dont think Smith should have played 90 mins last week and I dont think he should be starting two games in a row. I think we need to be concentrating on fielding our strongest 11 and getting some wins on the board before we start blooding in youngsters.

If he's having to manage Vincelot, given his injury history, that might explain it.

But if he's having to manage a guy that's only played an hour...

Who would you have instead?

He was the only one I was surprised to see starting. Very pleased to see Inih and Read starting instead of Marsh and Vincelot.

Only got question marks over Prosser and Smith from that XI, and interested to see Hutton again to see if he is any better today after our fans were very split on him last week (I was disappointed whilst you were impressed, for instance).

Only options are Vincelot or Marshall in that position aren't then. Not seen Marshall, not seen Smith either so I've got no preference.

Looks like two creative players and 3 attackers so fingers crossed for some entertaining forward play.

As you already know, I don't like Vincelot and he is going to have to do very well to change that.

Cannot comment on Marshall yet.

I thought Smith did pretty well today anyway and can only benefit him getting all this playing time so no problem for me. Let's hope he is more successful than McKee and Iontton* turned out to be.

*Still has a chance to do well.

Still maintain McKee did well in his breakthrough season and had the makings of a very good player at our level but he was either mismanaged/advised, or just wasn't prepared to continue to put the work in to sustain his performances for whatever reason.

you don't get a pro contract if you don't show something.

Didn't he got Borochat POTS / YPOTS or runner up summat?
