Options are test all your staff for £3,500 so you can fulfill fixture or tell everyone to self isolate for however many days and save yourself some dosh, but not fulfil fixtures in that period.

But surely by us doing the "right thing" as we did the EFL should call off the game if say x numbers of players test positive,I would say 3 given it also ties in with number for international call ups
Not sure what Grimsby actually did but surely it is for EFL to call off games not just for them to decide

They've got a bigger squad than us, so testing costs will be higher.

Still farcical.

If only we'd had time, say 5-6 months, to put some rules in place, just in case.

And a governing body to write those rules.

Three positive tests but game going ahead.

Edit - my understanding was that if you were a close contact of someone with a positive test you must isolate regardless of your test result, as tests are unreliable without symptoms, but I've done a Google and now I'm unsure. If the doctors say it's ok must be alright I guess.

Apparently we are happy to play. I bet not but have in effect been ordered to.I suspect this will come out afterwards.
PS Just to add to fun Bradford is I think now a local lockdown area. That normally means no non essential travel in or out .Seems rules do not apply to kicking a ball about though.

Ah you see I read that differently.

They said at the beginning they have been informed about a positive test. So I took that to mean they were told.

They then went on to say they were disappointed with how we outlined out position "this evening" without consulting them, which I took to mean we released a statement without consulting them about the statement. I.e. they're annoyed that their fans found out about it from us and it should have been a joint statement from both clubs.

So I never saw any allegations of us not informing them and therefore assumed youd had inside info.

Sadly that wouldn't surprise me based on the way we have gone about things previously (such as players being released). We have some very unprofessional methods still.

And that would really be very out of order IMO.

Orient for instance informed all clubs they had played the past fortnight and those they were due to play before revealing anything to the press. Professional, proper behaviour.

As far as I gather it's not true. Thing is in this world you can say what you like. We're very guarded at times with what we say as a club. We don't get into 'wars of words'
But Bradford were aware of this in the am. What more can you do? Tell them. Explain what's happening. And wait.

I just don't get how it can not already be off.

Whoever the player is will have spent all week with the squad. And even if the rest test negative, it can take a few days to show can't it? After which time we could have had played Bradford with several players having had it and given it to a number of their players?

Orient is off (albeit with a number of positives), Grimsby is off. I am amazed we are not already off.

I am not sure I want it on now. This will surely have impacted all of our preparations and plans, even if just from a travel perspective and missing one player. I don't want to lose momentum because we had to travel up on the day and play the game when not having prepared as well as we could have. It would also give more time for Inih to be fit (assuming he wouldn't be tomorrow).

No idea how we played as I went to watch Biggleswade Town lose again instead, but seems it was a deserved defeat today.

Still, content with 4pts from our opening three games. Not happy as felt all three were very winnable, but content. Next Saturday will be our biggest test of the season thus far, even moreso if still missing a few players, Salford will be up there this season.

No. The likelihood increases the longer you spend close to an infected person but you can, if you're unlucky, catch it from a door handle you touch once or from passing someone in the street.

I would imagine we minimise the indoor group time to minimise risk as its thought to be circa 20 x more likely to be spread in an ondoor environment (more surfaces, less air movement).

You can test positive without any symptoms.

But it takes time for the body to generate sufficient virus to give a positive result, so if I infect you today, you might not have enough virus to test positive tomorrow, but are more likely to test positive the day after. The time it takes depends on many factors.

All of which makes regular repeat testing essential to identify as early as possible.

That's my understanding. But I am not a real doctor, just an Internet one.

I know you can catch it from anything in a short amount of time, but when track and trace was launched they were only interested in people you had been within 2m of for 15 minutes +, and any contact less than this was not informed/needing to isolate

I'm not disagreeing about the stupidity of the situation.

There is a real risk that other staff and players have it.

I think the EFL need to put some firm rules and funding in place around when games are called off, it shouldn't be up to us or other clubs, it should be simple and documented in black and white.

Otherwise clubs will use it to their advantage or fail to test to avoid losing players for a fortnight.

Yeah. I'd be surprised if most the squad don't end up with it now. Only takes one test to be done incorrectly or not pick up the infection as too early, then everyone on the coach is at risk.

Personally I don't think logically the game should go ahead, but EFL rules allow it if all players going have tested negative and everyone uses the rules to get away with what they can.

Well the reason, whether right or wrong, is because all the players going tested negative.

Orient had too many players test positive to be able to fulfil the fixture.

Grimsby weren't willing to test all their players, so couldn't fulfil the fixture.

West Ham did what we did and tested all players and their game went ahead.

Orient are rumoured to have had 18 positive tests

Grimsby have not tested the rest of the squad so have no idea whether any other players have it. Noting your point that even our negative tests might not necessarily mean they don't have it

I don't understand how all of the EFL can carry on without regular testing. Meeting in groups of 6+ is banned, so how can we have 20+ meeting everyday for training and not social distancing, and not be because we are testing 1-2 times a week to ensure there is no virus spread. It's mental.

As you say, there's no way it should be going ahead as you can test negative in the first few days.

Either all teams test twice a week, or it's all off.

And with the regularity of matches this season, where it is almost twice a week every week, it is going to be so easy to spread through the entire division.

Not saying this is what happened by any means, but Orient played Oldham on the 12th. They then had positive tests a short while later and we played Oldham on the 19th. Now we have at least one positive. It could well be the case that an Oldham player or players gave it to Orient or an Oldham player or players got it from an Orient player or players. And then an Oldham player or players gave it to us. Add on the fact it can take a number of days to show. In the meantime Oldham could also have given it to Morecambe, and Orient to Mansfield and Plymouth, who in turn gave it to who they played etc.

Without regular testing and with the frequency of all the sides playing each other, it could easily spread through the entire division like wildfire, and lead to the whole league being shut down.

The costs of regular testing were one of the main reasons the majority of L1 and L2 voted to end last season early. Are we now just not doing so at all owing to that same reason?

You make some good talking points. Didn't West Ham play with 3 positives?
Apart from Tuesday night I don't think much time has been spent together and what has has been outdoors one would suspect? Grimsby is off because and I'm not 100% on this but they haven't tested their other players. Which leads you to suspect they have other suspected cases? Maybe we don't.

You can't deny the prep hasn't been ideal. They'd have travelled up, trained this afternoon somewhere. But now the players will be wanting to go win this game despite this. This is going to happen week in, week out for the next 6 months. Guaranteed.
I'd rather go at them with 2 red cards suspended than Innih being fit....

Yeah, I was amazed West Ham went ahead too. I guess this is partly (alongside giving the opportunity to push the PFA to fund the testing) why PW published the comments. You would expect some concrete guidelines from the governing body about what happens in each situation with a positive test so there can be no grey area and both we and Bradford could have known immediately what was happening with our match.

Good point about the red cards, had forgotten about those. And you never know what situation we would be in for the rearranged game, we could have injuries, suspensions, be in shit form etc. I guess it is always good to play when you have a bit of a head of steam to try to ride the momentum and keep it going, but it is a long arse journey up there that we really want to be avoiding the morning of the game.

Professional proper behaviour? In the EFL?

As long as we have done everything we need to do so that we don't get dragged off to a hearing, Bradford et al can go fuck themselves. They and many others would have happily seen us demoted on ppg. They should expect no more than what we are required to do. Self interest works both ways.

I hope we turn up at 2.30 ish. Game on lads, where r u?

I like the idea that the PFA contribute towards testing costs.

If we don't get the results back on the rest of the squad till later today it'll be a late evening or even a match day coach trip which isn't the best preparation.

See Grimsby game is off too.

Gonna be a long season.

Cannot see if Grimsby game if off, in fact they say next 3, why ours is not already .They too so far have one only positive teat.
Eitherway sign of things to come. Can see season being suspended and could then be start/ stop and get silly.
If game on travelling up they om matchday is really good prep.

It shouldn’t fall upon the employer that’s for sure , if it does then football outside of the premier league in this country will not be sustainable . Not going to be a popular opinion but isolate players with symptoms and either play with whose left ormoth ball clubs until a solution is found

I tend to agree. If they're not forking out for regular testing at the very least, it's really not going to be very long until they may have to pause the season. Two games affected this weekend, plus Orient v Spurs and West Ham v Hull. The anecdotal number of cases is quite noteworthy now.
