Leyton Orient, Harrogate, Grimsby.

Should get at least 6 points from those.

Oteh had potential from the two things he did second half. Aitchison too. If we play one of them with Effiong we should do alright.

We will have to use the midfield though, of which we should have 4. Not sure we have 4 midfielders at the club though. Will have to put Wildin on the right and Osborne on the left.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us lose the lot. Harrogate will beat us and we struggle against Orient usually.

2-3 points would be my prediction, if anything at all.

If we look at the bigger picture we can see we have lost to teams that will be top 8 come end of season and we have taken points from the teams below us.

Our squad is not good for top half because we had to start our recruitment for the NL.

Look at the fixtures for Southend, absolutely horrendous for the next 7/8 games. the others all have difficult fixtures too.

As long as we can pick up a steady amount of points against the teams around us we will finish at least 18th

We don’t know who will finish in the top eight come the end of the season. That’s the point of playing games.

Happy days, let's settle for 18th now with zero ambition to go for anything better.

Don't get why we're content losing because teams are above us, rise to the challenge not shy away from it.

The NL players got us our first 4 points, the "new" FL players that have come in have struggled.

"He runs a lot."

Looks like you do get the hype around Danny Newton. Running around a lot is the No.1 factor Borochat uses to determine if a player is good or not. It also has a weighting of around 70%.

See: Dale Gorman, James Dunne, Chris Beardsley.

His biggest problem is he doesn't know when to pass, it's all just head down running like a headless chicken. Sometimes this is called for, but he needs to know when to mix it up a bit. He's just a bulldozer of a player and certainly not a target man. The fact that he is getting game time says a lot about the calibre of our front line.

The fact he's so direct is what made him good in the first place, but it makes him look terrible when he's out of form. He needs to be dropped into a team scoring for fun to try and regain a bit of confidence.

At least there's a good excuse to drop him with the invasion of wild strikers.

He scored goals in his first season too let’s not forget.

Sadly, as with Kennedy for example, certain sections of our fan base only remember that and can’t see the part which came after where he has been injury prone and not had much of an impact.

I like Newton. I like his work rate and I’m glad we kept hold of him but I also accept his drawbacks and don’t expect him to perform miracles.

Top scorer in our first league one season with 10 goals. Double figures in our conference winning season too I believe. And that's just goal stats, which were only a small part of his job for the team.

Won the conference, league two playoff and reached the league one playoffs.

And half the fan base don't rate him so not sure how he can be overrated.

13 shots off target yesterday
Hopefully a better return of shots/goals ratio in the next few games

Southend will finish rock bottom, they have a horrible run of games and they probably set a new low points record

This season is all about making sure we are not bottom 2 come May, anyone expecting a promotion challenge, keep taking the meds.

I’d obviously like to set our sights higher but we have an inexperienced manager, his interviews are enthusiastic but show inexperience and naivety.
We all hope that Revs can do the business, he comes across as a very likeable guy, but in management you need that extra edge to get the best out of your team.

In fairness he might have.

Or he might have decided he's got enough experience and belief now to do it his way.

Im not saying a mentor is wrong, I've had mentors and mentored others in management. Some help, some hinder.

A good mentor, advisor or sounding board is brilliant and helps you develop.

But they can also lead you to question your own ability or steer you into doing it their way rather than yours, because 'they must know better'.

Ah okay.

I am wary of Grimsby, and our shit record against Orient.

I said before today's match that I would be content with five points from our four remaining games this month and delighted with any more. Viewed today and Harrogate as defeats but hoping we could nab a draw, with Orient and Grimsby as the two I expect points from, with at least one win.

As you say, fail to win both of those and we are in for a struggle as it is those games against sides likely to finish in the bottom third that we will need to win.

Cumming
JLW - Cuthbert - Prosser - Coker
Hutton - Smith - Read - Aitchison
Effiong - Oteh

Simple. Done. Or maybe even throw Akinwande in there alongside Effiong cos why the fuck not.
