This will allow Sampson to get hands on with the players training ground activities such as ping pong, Xbox and Instagram.

I wonder if they were lining him up to replace Revell then we won a game and so brought him in as assistant.

Also wonder if he has been with the club for a week already (and possibly made a difference) or whether we have just plucked him out of thin air all of a sudden.

Leon will have woo'd him with a tour of the town and a slap up Big King Meal (takeaway) from the Roaring Meg.

And if it reduces Sampson's tactical influence, that's a bonus too. Means he can focus on simply developing the players and running coaching sessions. In fact he should get match days off. He can always watch them back later.

The fact our setup was a bit weird and we've had the results we have had may not be unconnected so hopefully this will help.

I hear players talk about how the assistant is the one to ensure the manager's ideas get carried out in training each day, so not having one at all seems consistent with performances.

Revs was the assistant manager under Sampson during his caretaker reign.
Michael Nelson was assistant under GW
Simon Hollyhead was assistant under Dino for a short time

Is this a vote on confidence in Revs and Sampson? Definitely not pulling the trigger any time soon by the looks of it.

We have been better over the last few games to be fair.

Who's decision was this?

If it was Alex's, great. Good move, a proper assistant manager. No idea whether he's any good but willing to give him a chance.

If it was PW and/or Leon's however, we have learned nothing...

He'll just be a stalking horse for if/when it goes tits up again... You have to wonder whether, under trying circumstances, MS will be loyal to Alex or align himself with the assistant and Leon to ensure he stays on the payroll.

Or am I being cynical?

It's difficult not to be cynical with PW.

I'd imagine Revs 'chose' from a very short list presented to him.

At the moment it is Sampson on the touchline next to Revell telling him what to do etc.

With an assistant you would assume he will now be in Revell's ear and second in command.

Hoepfully Sampson will simply be running drills etc in training and not have a massive influence on the player selection and tactics.

All the pre-season talk of Lennie will advise Revs who to bring on so we win the game was, suprisingly, absolute nonsense.

Dunne was sort of manager we should be after and is waiting in the wings to takeover if it goes downhill again.
Hope it does not.
