The fact that Sampson wasn't anywhere near the bench and we played completely differently is interesting...

Why do these commentators criticize TVC so often? I don't get it. I think he's a decent L2 centre back with above average distribution. There's plenty of others more deserving of criticism, yet they seem to jump on everything he does that isn't perfect.

He's had a great game today, as most of our players have. Give him a fucking break.

I'm not actually sure he's that good. He's decent, sure, but I'd argue TVC is at least as good, on the basis that he is faster, can pass more accurately, and doesn't look to hoof the ball into the middle of nowhere every time the ball comes anywhere near him. He's a solid defender, but I don't think he's so good at defending that it completely covers his other short comings. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for 'if in doubt, kick it out', but on that logic, Cuthbert is permanently 'in doubt'.

That being said, do I want Cuthbert to start passing it out from the back? Not really. It's a bit like when Joe Hart received lot of criticism because he didn't come for crosses. He started doing it and was so bad at it, that it was arguably worse than him not coming for crosses at all. Cuthbert trying to pass out from the back is almost definitely going to be a disaster, but that's kind of my point. The idea that a professional footballer doesn't have the composure or technical ability to consistently pass the ball to a teammate less than 15 yards away is, in my opinion, pretty unacceptable.

While I'm not expecting everyone to be Premier League standard players, I don't think the expectation that every player in the team be able to consistently pass the ball 15 yards is unrealistic.

Are you serious?!

Compared to normal, our passing and ball retention has been excellent. We've given the ball away a few times, but that's to be expected from League Two players. You can't expect 100% ball retention.

Today has been a huge improvement over what we have seen for much of the last two seasons. We are looking to play football and it has been a million times more entertaining as a result, irrespective of the fact that we are winning.

We very clearly have a game plan, and are trying to play football. That's all I've been asking for for the past two years.

Not in the way I want. I don't mean hoof it to one player standing on the edge of the box, which is what we tend to do when the passing doesn't work out. I mean get the ball down, run at the opposition out wide whilst other players run towards goal centrally and play balls into the box towards them.

I see what you mean. I dont like that tactic, but that's just a difference of opinion. I just dont think it suits our players' styles. We don't have natural wingers and don't have enough big players who can dominate aerially.

Yeah, true that's part of my criticism this year, not the recruitment. And like you say that's a preference of style, clearly the management and chairman completely disagree with my preference.

If what they are trying to create works and we do averagely then I'll be more than happy given the current situation.

Disagree about Aitchison. I think he's a bit of a ball hog. He plays like he thinks he's better than everyone else. He may well be, but you've gotta be a team player.

He's clearly talented, but needs to integrate with the others more. But that will come with him playing more games I suspect.

Looking better to start the game. Apart from a few aimless balls down the flank, we are holding the ball better.

I think this lineup is pretty close to our strongest lineup. I'd argue Wildin over Hutton, and List should definitely be playing up front instead of Carter, but otherwise it's pretty good.

Hopefully we can start getting Aitchison and Pett on the ball more.

Much, much better ball retention. And it looks like we are only pressing in the middle third of the pitch, which considering Cambridge are supposedly a counter attacking team, and generally don't keep much possession, that's really smart (assuming they've been told to do that and it isnt just a coincidence).

Full credit to Wilkins. Having a quick impact it seems. Far, far better football on display.

Agree with that assessment.

We needed to make more subs and bring on fresh legs. The vincelot sub should have happened 10-12 mins earlier than it did. And for all Newton's great running, him and Read looked shagged from about 70 mins on. Sloppy touches and passes.

Other than that, good day at the office.

I was just having a moan that Hutton never chased down the ball and let it go for a throw in. Then we bloody scored from it.

Yeah let it go to use the long throw. Is that the first time we have actually got something from it?

Don't worry, Wilkins has obviously put his mark on the team now and blocked Sampo out, so we will surge up the table.

I think they'll all work well as a team. Sampson was doing his own and Lennie's job which was really affecting the results.

Am I right in saying there are zero non-league players in that line up??

Zero players signed from non league this season yes, but some were previously signed from non league clubs like Newton and Carter (I think).

Possibly some should playing non-league :-)

Feel sorry for Fernandez, thought he deserved to keep his place or at least be on the bench.

Sampson takes social distancing in the dugout very seriously. Proud of him. Bet it wasn’t him that caught the rona.

Good news. Means he can concentrate on his own job instead of covering other people’s roles.
