Tight at the bottom

By The Professor (The Professor)25/2 12:38Thu Feb 25 12:38:00 2021

Assuming ( unlikely as it is ) that all the teams around us win their games in hand the bottom of the table would look like this:

Port Vale 37
Colchester 36
Barrow 35
Stevenage 34
-----------------------
Grimsby 33
Southend 30

Whilst our current form is looking good, those around us are also picking up points now.

How confident are you that we will do enough to stay up?

I believe we are a better team than a lot of those teams around us but we need to quickly start turning draws into wins to pull away to safety.

We will be fine.

We need probably max 12 points from 15 games, on current form we should be getting at least 20.

To get 12 points or less would see us return to last seasons form and we are much better than that despite being frustrated with draws, they are points on the board

People kept saying we’d be fine last season. Took two clubs going to the wall and a pandemic to make that so.

I’m pretty confident in our abilities to stay up but it ain’t over til it’s over.

Covid-21 is in the lab on standby.

On a serious note, we're much better than the dogshit served up last season, especially in the last 2-3 months.

No such thing as an unplayable pitch

Just bad preparation and tactics.

Players slipping and the ball bobbling about should create more turnover for both sides, unless they're better prepared than us.

We know it's shit and adjust accordingly.

Hoof. Run. Press. Don't fuck about with it around the back. Simples.

Why does your optimism make me nervous? Pre epic-FLOUNCE you were uber doom merchant, and I somehow felt comfortable things would pick up. In fact, can you please return to your massively melodramatic cry in my room over a poor substitution persona so i can sleep at night?? I mean it

As you say it is unlikely the teams at the bottom will win their games in hand, that is why they are at the bottom (adding their PPG to their current totals might be a better way to adjust it).

If we continue on our current form and improvement path then I believe we will be safe.

I don't think at this stage we need to worry about what other teams are doing just focus on us picking up points and as you say work on turning some of the draws into wins.

It’s quite impressive that the top ten teams are separated by one point each.

The whole table is much tighter than usual, and it is possible someone could go down with a high points total by normal standards. However, it is impossible for all the teams around us to win all their games in hand, since some will be playing each other.
Our recent form is mid table at least, though we continue to find goals worryingly hard to come by, despite regular reshuffles of the personnel. Seven points from the last four (potentially) tricky away games is a good return but we only scored twice. Both of them were stunners.
We don't seem to get the scrappy goals off knees and backsides or the head of a luckless defender.
Not enough crosses/bodies in the box?
