That Wilkins Effect?

I think the bulk of us have noticed the results and the style of football has changed since we hired Dean Wilkins on 18th December 2020.

The last match we played before he joined the club we had just been thumped by Carlisle 4 - 0, and we 23rd in the league. Now we are 12th, 11 unbeaten and have the second meanest defense in the league.

Just out of curiosity I spent a proportion of today putting in hundreds of results into a table generator to see what the league table would've looked like if it started from December 19th onwards. I know it's a pointless stat, but it is the most optimistic I've felt about the football from us in a long long time.

"I hope we can hold onto players over the summer!" is not where I saw this season ending up six months ago.

The last time we won three in a row, incidentally, was two years ago, and ended with us missing out on the playoffs by a point. We won't think about what happened next.

We do tend to be late bloomers in the good seasons - the time we were front runners in League One didn't go well.

We won the first six games under Richard Hill. That didn't go too well either.
