We're already in a competition we can't get relegated from.

Hope the marketing team are working overtime.

Great chance to get new fans with Arsenal and Spurs, hilariously, being 2 of the teams involved

Well once upon a time in the 90s we had the opportunity for big things with a good fan base (tho most were on loan from premier league teams).

2 things happened
1 we didn’t get promoted to the football league
2 increase in televised games on sky

We lost a generation of support right there, blame victor green or sky. Maybe we could get a new generation involved

Might be a silver lining in this for clubs like us though ?
Just listening in to phone in and Arsenal/Spurs ST holders saying if this goes ahead they will not review and may watch their local clubs.

I'm not sure getting promoted to the Football League would have stopped people watching the Premier League on Sky.

Will it actually change anything though? How many people from Stevenage go to the Spurs or Arsenal games? Most PL fans are armchair supporters, why would their habits change?

The one thing I am curious about is player reaction. If UEFA, FIFA and PL keep their spine, it could mean the only competition players are allowed in are the ESL games. Will players be happy with this, or will we see a ton of movement this summer with players opting to move to clubs playing in domestic and international games?

This could also make the loan market interesting. Will these clubs still want 50 players on the books if they're not allowed to send them off to loan? They also won't be part of the EFL Trophy with their U23 teams.

In fact, they'd have to create their own U21/23 competitions, the clubs (not just teams) won't be able to compete against domestically. For that matter, if it's the club as a whole, their academies will be isolated from the rest of the domestic game.

There are some scenarios where, over the next few years, this could actually be a huge benefit to the domestic game as it creates an environment where a few super-teams are playing very few games, and this will soon get old with the fans who want more than 20 games a season.

However, as I said up top, the most interesting aspect to watch will be player reaction. They could be the ones who make this an interesting situation.

If the players are banned from representing their country it will get interesting.

As for how it might benefit local smaller clubs, the ESL is badged as a midweek competition so weekends will be free for watching domestic football. If we can tempt them out of their armchairs.

They will probably be on £250k a week. That will take the sting out of not playing for the national team.

Maybe, but I'm not sure players would be happy to sit at home and watch the Euros or World Cup on TV just so they can play the same 14 teams a couple of times every year.

I do think the player angle will be the big one. Will teams (and more important, fans) accept players who come back to domestic leagues after playing for one of the super teams?

Will Arsenal and Spurs players be OK with getting brutalized every Wednesday night as they watch Burnley play at Wembley in a Cup Final?

Fair point on the midweek games. It would be nice to see more people get involved with their local clubs, and for clubs to be more involved in their communities.

As I think about it, what about others in the game? Would coaches and managers want to be in something stagnant? Surely, even refs want to be involved in big games, Champions League, Euros, World Cup etc. Will they also be banned?

I'm sure there's been a lot of planning behind this and someone has worked out the numbers, but it seems like a huge risk. Either that, or they're now in a game of chicken with the powers to see who blinks first.

On a personal note, I'm in the uncomfortable spot of hoping PSG win the Champion's League this year.

On a serious note this, if it goes ahead, will have a significant impact on solidarity payments, on which we heavily depend.

I can see the PL going into meltdown while they sort out the money, Sky TV won't cough up if the big clubs have been kicked out.

There will be lawyers wanking themselves into a coma over how this will be resolved.

The whole top half of the pyramid will need a restructure, arguably one that is long overdue.
