Alex Revell has named three changes to that team that fell to defeat against Mansfield Town on Saturday, with Ben Coker, Remeao Hutton and Jack Smith coming into the starting eleven.

Elliot Osborne and Jack Aitchison drop to the bench, while Luther James-Wildin misses out through injury.

Stevenage Cumming, Coker, Prosser (c), Hutton, Vancooten, List, Smith, Pett, Martin, Norris, Lines.

Subs Johnson, Vincelot, Cuthbert, Osborne, Aitchison, Williams, Stevens.

Went to the new TopTracer driving range at Gravely so missed the game, well worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.

According to the manager we had 2 clear cut chances in the first half and should have scored both before they did?

Yeah, I'm probably not going to bother watching any more games this season either. I bought a season pass but I can't be arsed getting up early to watch 4 pseudo-friendlies. It doesn't look like we will take advantage of the opportunity to experiment with the fringe players, and the current crop of player don't really have much to prove at this point. I'm expecting them to all be non-events.

Honestly, at this point, why not just play all the youth/backup players and just see what happens. Stick Fernandes, Marshall, Smith, et al in alongside some of the more experienced players like Cuthbert, Martin and Lines. Put Akinwande up front and see how he gets on. If we get smashed 5-0, then at least we have a better idea of whether or not the fringe players are good enough. If Akinwande bangs in a hat-trick then see how he does for the remaining games. We literally have nothing to lose.

Looking at our squad, we could realistically line up with:

Marshall; Fernandes, Cuthbert, Marshall, Martin; Iontton, Lines, Smith, Read; Akinwande, List.

Like how bad can Akinwande actually be? I fail to believe that he's significantly worse than Stevens, who has done absolutely fuck all aside from his last-minute winner against Grimsby.

Norris is never going to be the answer. He's 27. He's in the prime of his career. Yet Colchester (who, let's not forget, are 4th from bottom) were quite happy to let him go (I can't find confirmation of the transfer fee, so I assume it was either a free transfer, or a nominal fee). His attitude stinks and he doesn't do anywhere near enough to justify an average of 23% strike rate across his entire career (22% with us).

I don't expect every striker to score 25 goals a season, but if you're not a goal scorer, then what else are you bringing to the team? Mediocre hold up play and constantly whining when you don't get the ball on a plate doesn't do it for me. Leave the moaning to the know-it-all fans, thanks.

Colchester were happy to let Norris go only in the sense it was one of their highest earners off the payroll. Not that it has done much for their financial situation as they are on the brink...

Second game in a row we haven't turned up until half time. It's a reminder that there is plenty of work to do before we have a squad good enough to challenge for promotion. Who knows, perhaps one day we'll sign a winger.

Dean Wilkins was on the bench Tuesday and we still lost.

Has he helped? Yes.

Did signing better players as the season went on help? Yes.

Did the squad need time to gel? Yes.
