may have been a 1-0 game but a great goal.but the main part of going to Hitchin today was to see our fellow
stevenage fans and it does seem that there is plenty of intrest in the coming season.
also was good to see all the old faces around the ground can not wait for our first league game.
It was fantastic to be back watching Boro, seeing the players and all the regular faces again.
I thought it was good minutes for the players. A nice chance to see the new players and how they’ll integrate with the originals. Happy we started with a win also, very positive overall.
Speaking on the new players, you can see how good Jake Taylor is just in those 45 minutes. Such class on the ball, he’ll be one of the best players for us this season IMO.
I like the look Reeves, I think he will get better as the season goes on and gains more Football League minutes.
James Daly showed a lot of flair and again similar to Reeves in a way, I think he will get better as the season goes on and will give Listy and Norris competition.
Joseph Anang looked solid in goal too.
Hopefully the boys can get good minutes on Wednesday and can keep building that style of play. Looking forward to it!
We are back
Great afternoon for football and a great turn out for Hitchin Fc.
Certainly looked like a 4-4-2 formation with Reeves holding 1st half and Taylior 2nd half.
Taylor looks to be a good attention to the squad.
The game was competitive and had a good tempo to it.
The only things I took from the 1st game was
Plenty to choose from in midfield
Not sure I saw the quality up front to take us up on the day. Not a criticism an observation at this stage.
Although I did like Daly plenty of energy.
Like AE the 10 roll I think is going to be important.
Hopefully Carter fills that spot
Didn't see that yesterday with him running around with his Alice band and socks rolled down. We shall see.
Well done Hitchin FC club
Didn't see a face Mask all afternoon. Fantastic
It would be good to hear more, for those of us who couldn't be there.
Anyone know what formation we played? Who played where?
Looking at who's in the squad, I'm really expecting that we will play a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield. One holding, two shuttlers and a no.10.
With us signing another attacking right back, along with the fact that we know LJW and Coker like to attack, I think the width will come from our full backs, with a pretty robust midfield behind a more creative no.10.
At the fans forum Phil stated that we will be playing a 4-2-2-2 formation this season.
Same as you I expected the flat 4-4-2, but in many ways the 4-2-2-2 makes sense with some of the players we’ve recruited. I actually think it suits our team better with playing two number 10’s.
Will be interesting to see.
I'd be a bit bemused if I was manager and the chairman revealed the formation I was playing at a fans' forum
That's a very good point. Strikes me as a fairly odd thing to say in a chairman's update.
BUT - what he didn't let on was that he said it the wrong way round, and it's actually a 2-2-2-4 formation!
Inverting the pyramid and all that
Wtf is a 4-2-2-2? That sounds horrendous.
Two holding midfielders and two more advanced players with freedom to play wider or inside.
Brazil in 2006 is the example I think of but apparently Pelligrini and Mancini used it at City without it being crap like Brazil were.
But 2 of the 4 midfielders can do wtf they want.
We play 90s dutch total football so everyone plays all over the pitch anyway and are not limited to any stated formation.

In the same way a chihuahua and a Great Dane are both dogs, yes.
Can't believe Phil has given away our tactics so early on in the season!
It was how we were playing toward the end of the season with Osborne and Smith at times. I think we'll get shredded by teams with decent wide players but there shouldn't be too many of them. It's less obviously bad than trying a 4-3-3 with non league forwards and midfielders approaching retirement.
Look at this. Prophetic. Unappreciated in my time.
There were quite a few names I didn't recognise (new signings/youth) and a few trialists.
Wonder if anyone stood out or knew who the trialists are?
Our Trialist keeper in the second half played an absolute blinder.
Did he even touch the ball? Can’t remember him doing so
