Appparently Villa have donated their 45% of gate money.Very nice and being a bit picky but is this fair .Will all prem teams been forced to do this when drawn away at a lower club.

Why would they be forced to?

It happens quite often, ManUre usually do it and Spurs did it recently also. I am sure a lot of the bigger PL clubs do it.

Maybe if our club hadn't needlessly shut one of our three home stands and Luke Prosser had bothered to head a ball that went right by his head six yards out from goal in injury time we could have been looking forward to making hundreds of thousands of pounds from Spurs in a few weeks' time.

As a Premier club, perhaps Southampton will donate five of last night's eight goals to Newport to allow them to go through to the next round on a 'technicality'?

It's a bit confusing some people are saying we'd have got City but some are saying Spurs either way would have been a good away day against a top premier league team.

It would have been Spurs as we would have been the ball that was Stoke and Spurs the ball that was Watford.

So we have missed out on hundreds of thousands of pounds. Well worth saving a tenner in shutting the stand for.

Yes, having a bunch of knuckle-draggers shouting 'wanker' at their keeper from the North Stand would have made all the difference!

You don't think having a load of home fans behind the goal would have added some additional pressure on their players taking penalties compared to it being a completely empty stand? Similar to, oh I dunno, Luton, maybe?

Pretty sure there is no evidence having your own fans behind the goal results in thst team winning penalty shoot outs.

Some one should do a study

They have. It's long and dull, and complex to interpret but concludes that taking a penalty in front of your own fans is 4.7% more likely to be scored.

Fine margins though.

Which over nine penalties is quite likely to have an impact.

But the main point is that a supposed professional football club should not be shutting one of its home stands for such a match, regardless of the final result. It is very poor.

Had we not decided to try and defend a 1 goal lead for 13 minutes plus injury time, when we were on top in the game and looking more likely to score a 3rd than concede a second, we wouldn't have needed to worry about whether or not fans were behind the goal for the penalty shoot out...

I can comment on what the fuck Prosser was doing for their goal, though, which I witnessed last night. Shocking.

I think Prosser is a major upgrade from Nugent, but still absolutely fucking terrible.

As far as the game goes, I'm only really going on the commentary. It sounded very much like we were on top.

Wycombe were completely at the other end from their fans, which arguably should worked to our advantage - and there was plenty of noise from the East Terrace and Main stand.

You could also argue there was less pressure on our players, not having hundreds of expectant faces staring at them.

While I appreciate that fans sitting in the new stand may not have affected the result of the penalty shoot-out, I'm not sure why people seem to be behind the club's decision to close the *new* stand for the match. They couldn't even be arsed to pass comment on the reason for doing it until the SLO came back after the match to say it was to do with reducing match day costs. May as well have not bothered building it if people can only use it for some of the matches.

Because the majority of our fans just blindly go along with everything the club does whilst dribbling down their chins and clapping along like seals.

Sometimes I think I'm being too old and too cynical, but the club's communication to fans could be much better and wouldn't take much more effort.

Nope.

Edit: And regardless of that, I am certain the club actually missed out on money by closing that stand. I am one of six people I know who would have gone in the north but didn't bother going at all because the stand was shut. So that's £132 straight off the bat without even asking anybody if they did the same. And I know for certain others will have been the same, and plenty of people in the JBT would have paid extra to sit in there as they did in the first round. They would have made hundreds more by having it open. How much does it cost to open that stand for a game? And if it is so expensive, what is the difference between that and a league game where it is open and would attract similar nunbers? Plus expenses are removed before then splitting the gate receipts in the cup. It was a bullshit decision from a supposedly professional football club.
