Seems they are having trouble in filling 76 lounge for Hartlepool as well as just had email offering me £20 upgrade.

Realise that but clearly they are not full up with non ST holders ready to stump, up £45.

I presume that if it isn't at maximum capacity every game then it must be a failure and should instead be opened up to replica-shirted drunkards to get pissed in there instead.

People really are very rattled that this new bar isn't just for our handful of fans and is instead being used to try to make the club some more much-needed extra money on a matchday.

I invested in the stand and it doesn't bother me one iota. There is another bar available at the ground if people are that desperate for a pint.

I hope I'm not being stupid, but I don't get the point Hitchin is trying to make. The club are offering him a thing for the same price it's been available for all season. Okay. Obviously I'm missing something.

The club would probably prefer if poss to fill it up with non ST holders paying straight £45 rather than upgrades as overall they would probably make more money eg cost of say ET ST per game around £13 per game plus £20 upgrade £33.

But you get a North stand ticket in the £45 deal, which is £22/24 on its own, so all the rest is, urm, about £20

The ST holders have already paid for their match ticket. For a non-ST holder the cost of their match ticket is included. The difference in income the club makes between the two groups would be negligible at best. I’m sure if anyone wants to go in to the bar but not buy a match ticket the club would take £20 from them for the pleasure.

The 76 club is just Stevenage's way of doing what nearly every other club does. A posher bit for people with slightly deeper pockets. People seem to get rattled by it a bit. Not that HC was, I think he was merely making an observation he'd got an email through to be fair.

I think the issue is that it's replaced the bar for 'normal folk' to have a beer in the ground pre game and half time, and I'm sure someone said when they were asking for investors that the bar in the new stand was going to be a supporters bar

I would understand the issue if that were not still the case.

But not a half time beer, or a 2nd half beer when we're 4-0 down. Am sure some people worked hard on sorting that out, and taking anything away again always causes a reaction

Would you not just leave and go to Stripes in that case? Or the Mutual? Or home?

To summarise this thread, fans who want access to a facility their admission included two years ago are in fact dumb and bad.

From memory the North Stand bar (until this season when accessible to hospitality) has only ever been accessible once during a game, and that was for the VIP investors opening thing, so even then was not for everybody.

So it isn't that something available previously has been removed, it has never been available.

Suppose the issue is that since Bazza’s bottle bar went there hasn’t been a place for a half time drink in the ground. I can see why some would miss that. Pre and post-match there’s a facility in place in the shape of Stripes.

Hello, I think you left your straw man here.

Edit: although it would be good if the club could find a cans area, or similar. Extra revenue, if nothing else, would be desirable, surely.

They could have a posh bit on the roof, complete with piano player and roulette tables while we can be underneath grunting and hitting each other with stone clubs.

If the club should make any change it should be turning the tea bar into a crèche for some extra cash. There are plenty of places you can go for a cup of tea near the ground or you can even bring a flask in.

I agree. I understand why they're doing it, and of course extra revenue is always welcome, but it seems a bit weird to have a members only (or pay-to-use) bar at our stadium.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but it just seems like a cash-grab to me, and one that I can't imagine will get much uptake. It's not like we have many rich people coming to our stadium who want to get away from the riff-raff. If you're coming to watch a Stevenage match, presumably you don't mind the riff-raff, or more likely, like the riff-raff.

The riff-raff was the only reason I kept going all those years...

I'm curious, do people (or are people planning to) use it? If so, why pay to enter this bar as opposed to going to Stripes, which is free?

Just a side note: I like that we still call it Stripes. I hope as new generations come along they too call it stripes and it continues for many years until the days where people say why does everyone call the Broadhall Suite Stripes.

Shame we don't still refer to ourselves as Stevenage Borough.

Haha, I agree. It's one of those things that's part of the fabric of the club, and something that should never have been changed.

Along with changing our name to drop the Borough, which you've touched on. I also think we should never have ditched the diagonal striped shirts. They're two things that made us unique, and not just another Football League club. We should never have changed our badge, either. At least not to what we changed it to.

I don't think there's another Borough in the Football League, is there? And there certainly isn't another team (in the EFL at least) that plays in red and white diagonal stripes. IMO, being unique does far more to promote a strong brand than having a circular, social media friendly logo does.

Maybe controversial, but I also don't think we should have ditched Burger King if they wanted to remain our sponsor. Maybe Prime has some stuff up their sleeve, but BK did more than just supply us with sponsorship money; it seemed to me that they were pretty active in trying to promote our brand.
