That's almost certainly that as far as the playoffs go.
Nothing to lose in the remaining 4 games.

I dont see any downside to taking him off.
Edit: we've already used 5 subs.

Crap I'd lost count there and missed the first half.

We should definitely put in a guy who the whole defensive unit blatantly don't trust and who ships in goals for fun and doesn't keep clean sheets instead of a guy who has been almost faultless for us for two years and keeps a clean sheet in every other game he plays.

I dont understand why we've all of a sudden stopped being able to score goals?
I mean, I can see why we're not based on how we are playing... but we've been playing the same way all season and it hasn't been an issue, so I don't know why it's all of a sudden gone awry.
I guess the fact that no-one else on the team other than Reid is capable of scoring regularly doesn't help. But, again, that's been the case all season so it's weird.

Macca and Reid HAD to score today.
Both put it straight at the keeper from about ten yards out with the whole goal to aim at. That is the difference between a win and a defeat today. And has been the case for many games on this barren run, that chances have been created but not taken. Maybe it is the pressure now of knowing the run we are on and what is at stake.

I?d be very interested to see our XG broken down across the season (and Reidy?s too).
We?re a pretty tight unit at the back, but we?ve never looked particularly dangerous this season I?d say. Right back to day one at Northampton we didn?t seem to threaten much but nicked a goal.
I think the play-offs have eluded us now. But the building block of a strong defence is there. We definitely need to add something at the sharp end of the pitch desperately though, all the while not damaging that defensive unit.

It?s a valid and useful metric when viewed in context. I?ve never understood why it offends people so much. I?m sure Big Steve will be using it, as will any professional manager worth their salt no doubt.

Luckily I don't need to have a career in football to understand statistics and basic probability.

Very true. Reid is key for me. Has he over performed, or would have have done even better with more quality service? If it?s the latter then getting that service in the door will be easier than finding a player who will score 15+ goals.

Re: Match Thread

Reid has done his job. Oliver, Hemmings, List, Pressley, et al have not been good enough. The problem isn't Reid over performing, its the drop off in quality in our other strikers and attacking players.

Re: Match Thread

The fact that the other strikers haven?t scored as many as Reid isn?t a factor in whether Reid has over performed or not. In fact it?s probably an indication that Reid has scored more than he should have as they all receive the same service to a certain extent.
I wouldn?t say Reid is head and shoulders a better player than any of our other strikers or a more natural goalscorer. He has great work rate though.
And if Reid has over performed and we go into next season with most of our goal scoring hopes pinned on him without altering our present attacking approach then it really is a problem.

Wonder if a fit JFC would make a difference. If him and Roberts played to their potential we would have a lot more threat going forward.

JFC is a very tidy player technically. We probably haven?t got the best out of him as we do tend to bypass the midfield somewhat.
I really rate Roberts, but I think he has to be nailed to one position in League One as opposed to the more free role he has (and performed in so well last season). I?d like to see a front three with NGW left and Roberts right of Reid.

We definitely need more pace, that along with another good striker should be a priority. I don't know what the situation is with contracts but I'd like to hang onto NGW and get Anderson back if we can. We also probably need another central creative player to challenge Roberts because if he doesn't play well we rarely look like scoring

As I've said before we were most effective playing the ball to Pressley's feet early in the season, then he was dropped. When he got a look in again we just kept pumping balls to his head. His confidence looked to take a battering. We've struggled for goals since early winter really and even before that were hardly free scoring.
It's partly down to the tactics, partly due the quality of the team.
I'm still massively worried about next season. I can see foresee shades of Evan's reign at Gillingham springing up if we aren't careful.
