Season Over

Disgraceful game today where no player can even be proud about their performance. The inconsistency in the final games of the season has lost us our playoff appearance. I only want to see Reid, Piergianni and Vancooten back next season, no other player is at a league one standard. Reid will be sold in the summer and will the funds we get will be spent on more unproven players at this level. evans will most likely get an offer in the summer to leave and he will be replaced with the cheapest option aswell, we will be lucky to stay up next season.
Cheers, Bentley

I get the frustration and we do need a good summer window off the back of this second half of the season.
That being said, look where we were 2 years ago.
We massively exceeded our wildest expectations in the first half of the season, and we've under performed too often in the second half of the season.
At the end of the day we'll more than likely still finish ahead of every promoted team, and inside the top 10.
If you'd offered me that back in August I'd have taken your hand off.

Currently on more points than we have ever been on after 42 League One matches, including our previous League One playoff season.
No consolation if we fall short, but a little reminder of how good a season it has been, regardless of how it might end.

By one point.
And we won three and drew one in our last four that season.
So, yes we're on course. But that can quickly change on Tuesday.

Yep. I never thought we?d get anything from last night - a point at best - but having seen that show last night, I?d like to think Burton & Cheltenham are winnable. It?s still possible?!

They played like trojans last night with no sign of negative thoughts. They still think we have a chance for 6th spot so if they believe then who am I to disbelieve?

We've had a cracking season. If someone had offered me top 10 before the season, I'd have bitten their hand off.
I wonder if people's perceptions would be different if our results had been the other way around - terrible first half of the season, but terrific second half.
People forget we're not quite mixing it financially with many teams in the league. We've done a great job in our first season back.

If my aunty had bollocks....
Simple truth is we had a great first half, everyone was riding the crest of a wave...
"Champions by Easter",
"Sod the playoffs, we should be aiming for the automatics"
And then we stopped playing well and it just went all turgid and wrong.
And we aren't sure why, i don't think effort levels have dropped off, we haven't had obvious long term key injuries and we haven't lost many where we were the better team and got robbed.
It's so fucking disappointing. Yes we have exceeded expectations from August, but not from January.
I can't sit here and smile thinking about how great the season has been. Maybe I will once its all finished.

I can see both points of view. It?s the cup half-full/half-empty scenario. We can be disappointed if we don?t reach the play-offs but there are plenty of positives when we look back at the season regardless.
I just hope there are no excuses from the manager. Be it decisions against us, injuries, whatever. We have to own how the season has unfolded and use it as a springboard going forward.
The January window was probably the worst we?ve had under Evans. While it isn?t the fault of the signings themselves that we?ve not ?finished the job,? so to speak, perhaps if we?d dug a little deeper into the coffers we?d have managed to bring in a couple of better players who would have actually made a difference on the pitch. That all boils down to risk/reward and I don?t mind us not overstretching the budget.
It?s a good time to be a Stevenage fan. I?ve got faith in the gaffer and those behind the scenes to assemble an even better squad for next season regardless of what happens for the rest of this season.

And remember, we?ve been cheated out of at least 6 points with bad refereeing decisions, that would had put us still in the mix even with our poor second half of the season performances

More.
Carlisle (h)
Bolton (a)
Blackpool (a)
Bristol Rovers (a)
Pompey (a)
Reading (h)
Port Vale (a)
Derby (a)
Orient (h)
All game changing decisions that have incorrectly gone against us. Not saying we would pick up full whack from each of those games but I reckon we pick up another 8-10
Only game I can think where we got away with a dodgy (non) decision was Vale at home.

We have to let this go?..probably every manager in the league will give examples of games where they have been ?robbed? of points by refereeing decisions.
(Though it would be interesting to see a league table based on that!)

And Butler should absolutely have been sent off at the weekend too, but nobody seems to have mentioned it.
We still lost so it wouldn't have made any difference to the result, but is still a decision that went in our favour, of which we have had a few this season.

Re: Season Over

We seem to get decisions where we lose anyway, so they don't affect the outcome of a game. Pidge not being sent off against Peterborough didn't change the outcome for example.
Whereas ours often happen when we don't win.
The Lincoln game when there was a definite second yellow that wasn't given, that could have changed 1 point into 3 and a 3 points swing with Lincoln. Probably wouldn't have as you can never know the effect.
But as you say happens to all teams so everyone could claim a few extra points if the ref wasn't shit.
Ultimately we failed to make the playoffs because of our own shortcomings.

Guys
Look at the teams below us, we?ve done fantastic, Steve recruited well in the summer, proven league one players, all with championship experience, league one is a fantastic league, and I?m sure we?d been one of the whipping boys if we ever made it to the championship, it?s been a great season

It's not been a great season, it's been a great half a season.
That's my point.
I'm very happy with our end position based on expectations on day 1 of the season.
I'm also disappointed with our performances since January and our likely season end position.
Anyone who isn't is lying to themselves.

It would had been a fantastic achievement to have reached the championship, like Wycombe did a few seasons ago, but I?m sure getting spanked most weeks would had been quite demoralising for the players, we haven?t the budget to compete at those levels, securing league one status was our main priority, now consolidate and establish ourselves as a solid league one team, and when the opportunity for playoffs came round again, maybe our experience will help us get over the finish line
Look at teams like Sunderland, Portsmouth, Ipswich with all their resources, it took years to get out of league one, it?s a tough league

Nathan has barely played after looking good early on in the season. Louis is good when he plays.
Some people like Ben, I feel he's a bit frantic. Jury's out.
I'd like to think that the big teams that fail to go up will be looking to strengthen and offload some players which gives us a chance to get them.
Equally the ones who go up will up will be looking to strengthen for the Championship and could offload some good players, but they may be picked up by the bigger teams coming down or who failed to go up so will be hard to get.
I saw Moxon on the TV the other night for Portsmouth, doesn't play too often for them so you'd imagine won't be needed in the Championship. He was highly rated last season and the sort we may have a chance to acquire, for example.
