Smith And Pressley
Views: 1188
Thought both were really good tonight. Smith my man of the match.
Pressley, whilst he should?ve scored, offered so much more than Hemmings or Oliver. With a run of games in the last 3 both can hopefully show us what they can offer and win us games like today

Can I add List to that? err? list? I thought we saw flashes of his previous brilliance returning and I thought he worked his butt off. Really surprised to see him, Pressley and Smith starting but was so pleased by their performances.

Agree, his first touch looked much sharper.

Thought he was the least 'effective' attacking player, but he ran and created space. Can't fault his effort levels.
If he can do that consistently he might get a contract next season, (but I think it'll probably be in L2).

But some of those passes and slick interplay, and a bit of pace here and there? I genuinely thought he was noticeably better. I?ve thought recently that he isn?t the same anymore and I?d be fine with him leaving, but last night I thought that if that old standard was returning (as it looked, to me), I?d be happy to keep him.

He?s looked half decent for half a season when we stayed up in League Two. I know he was injured last year but we can?t carry passengers. Need to free up space in the budget and move him on in the summer, can?t gamble on him being good enough for a tilt at the sharp end of League One next season when there is nothing to suggest he?s up to it.

I'd still take a chance on him over some of the other forwards on our books!

Precisely this. With our budget we?re never going to be able to sign the best forwards on paper at this level. We know what List offers, and could we really get somebody better than him for his play style? Possibly, but it seems unlikely to me.

I?d rather take a punt on someone who isn?t out of action 27 times a year.

Pace is a rare commodity and doesn't come cheap. Be a shame just to let him go to benefit someone else for free. But equally if it's just going to be like this season each season it's a waste of time/squad space.
Whether List still has that pace after his injuries I'm not sure.
It's a tough call.

Reid I?d keep. Pressley maybe. The others can all go.

There you go. I'd have taken off List today. Not his type of game today and we need to batter them now.

Imagine if Pressley had been involved in some of the games during our dire run rather than being cast out into the wilderness after being blamed for our loss to Derby after getting ill after the Derby game.

Both terrific, as was Louis T.
Calling MoM really hard tonight, but Reidy was electric. Back to his sharpest I thought. *Fantastic* goal; deserved at least another. The change of tactics suited him, playing off Pressley, allowing him to run at goal rather than facing backwards.

Gr8 that he could finally play off Pressley now that Pressley isn?t fucking ill anymore

I can only assume Pressley is awful in training or be made of glass.
Why else would Oliver get in ahead of him so often?
Smith was superb.

Pressley has been on the naughty step since failing to close down his man at Derby, which cost us the game.
Continuing the Oliver experiment proves SE doesn't get everything right.
Smith was very good, too. In fairness, they all were. That was the Louis Thompson I've been waiting to see.

Louis has been great most of the season and should have played far more than Burns.

Good point (like the one we didn't get at Derby). What I should have said was that SE blamed Pressley, not necessarily that he was guilty.

Can only assume it is part of the loan deal.
Pay X% of wages if he plays, pay Y% if he doesn't.

Has Pressley been in the squad much. I can't remember, I seem to think he hasn't even been on the bench which makes me wonder if he hasn't been well/fit rather than excluded due to one game about 6 months ago which people like to think.

I honestly wonder what Hemmings is doing in the squad? Can't see what he offers? Very slow. Looks more like a National League player.
