Disgusting decisions by both Gateshead council and the EFL.
Can't believe this sort of thing is still happening nearly nearly 30 years after what we went through.

Sounds like this might be more on the EFL being inflexible.

Apparently the stadium Running on an £860k annual deficit, which seems a lot - What do SBC charge?

F sorry for them but how are even allowed to stay in NL then if they have no chance of being promoted, in effect they are denying a potential place to another team each season.

That's a really odd statement to make. If you chucked out every NL team whose ground isn't up to EFL scratch you'd lose quite a few teams I imagine.
Not to mention on that logic we would have been barred from the Conference when we first made it up to that level.
Hope they can get something sorted and get promoted in a number of years. They've spent most of the past 2 decades at that level and have had a few playoff charges here and there.
If they could get some financial stability and a permanent home I could see them being another us and punching above their weight up to League 1.

Most clubs in current I suggest Most prem have league ground status it may be the minimum needed and think they then get a window to upgrade.Tjhis was not around when we were denied promotion.Re Gateshead seems they have known about this issue for sometime.Obviously do not know everything that has happened but why did they not try and get a groundshare arrangement put in place as back up.All i am. saying is next year the same might happen .

Surely they were in the council's hand with nothing they could dom to force it.

Perhaps but they was a groundshare option, realise that may have been easier said than done. But for example there is the Reynolds Arena place in Darlington .

There might have been greater costs and it would involve them leaving their area. Also I can't see a groundshare being agreed for 10 years. The Coventry one with Northampton wasn't long at all.

More like the inept workings of the council if you read the twitter comments after the statement.

I imagine all of those twitter comments aren't very clued up on the finer points of contract law, which seems to be the issue here if the council want to pass a hugely loss making facility to someone else by the sounds of it.

Nothing to so with the stadium itself, it is to do with the lease not being granted for ten years by the council.
