I think this is the second time in three seasons Farnborough have had their early league matches postponed. Our league seems to have bent over backwards to accommodate them, in Sunday's NLP their chairman (the same individual who presided over the demise of the original Aldershot FC in the early 90's) was spouting off about how they "have a lot to offer" our league, and now this. If they go bust now we'll be left with two blank Saturdays and loss of revenue from a home league match.

This club has never even played in our league before and they're already causing chaos for the rest of the division. Peacehaven were unluckily relegated with 49 points last season, but it's too late to reinstate them now.

The original Farnborough Town club was only formed in the late 60's but worked hard to reach the Isthmian Premier Division after starting right at the bottom. Then they acquired a rich benefactor who spent their way Margate-style onto the Conference National, then got bored and pulled out when he realised they would never get any further playing in front of crowds of no more than 1,000, leaving them to go bust.

This new ersatz club got a very generous leg-up directly into the regional leagues at Step 4, without having to start at county league level, thereby leapfrogging countless solvent established clubs who had been striving for promotion to that level. These 'phoenix' clubs have a lot of advantages- they start out debt free with a ready made ground suitable for a much higher level, a captive supporter base, they invariably gain several promotions in rapid succession enabling them to reach the same status as the club they replaced, but with the momentum of growing crowds and several seasons of success on the pitch. And Farnborough have still f***** up. It now appears that they've taken advantage of their relegation by making every attempt to wriggle out of paying 98% of their £1,000,000 debt. I feel sorry for their long suffering supporters, but every other aspect of this club seems completely toxic.
