Gavin & Junior were both sent from the bench at Hornchurch when Shawn McCoulsky was red carded for an innocuous looking challenge last season. The previous season Gavin was sent form the bench at Lewes when the referee allowed them to take a goal kick as his assistant was attempting to supervise a Hamlet substitution; with our right back having made his way to the far touchline the ball went straight down the channel he'd just vacated allowing a forward a clear run at goal to score. Those were both infurating decisions. Gavin was also sent off at Canvey two seasons ago, but I wasn't there to see that one.

In our last two seasons in D1S we won the 'Respect' award for best disciplinary record towards match officials, and in the latter season we also won the overall 'Fair Play' award for least red/yellow cards overall. IN the 2012 season we only had one yellow card for dissent in 42 matches, which was in the penultimate game at home to Faversham when Ishmail Kamara understandably got annoyed with being repeatedly penalised for innocuous challenges on defenders or the keeper that would never have been given as penalties had they been made by defenders on him.

I think perhaps with the higher calibre of more experienced player we now have there's a tendency to be a bit more assertive and argumentative when really poor decisions go against us. But ultimately it doesn't do us any favours to argue to the point of being dismissed. When Carew was finally shown the red card on Saturday at least five minutes must have elapsed since the actual decision was made.
