I would have thought that this was the case to make winter postponements less of a hindrance to the fixture list...

Of course it would have made more sense to have less games. How long before the administrators come to their senses and admit that a 24 team division is a nonsense at this level of football?

Cheers. Once again nearly all the best/longest trips seem to be in the middle of winter, therefore susceptible to postponements.
Leiston on a Saturday in August looks a good one for those who can make it.

Boxing Day

Enfield Town away on Boxing Day. FFS how are we supposed to get to that by public transport with virtually no train servies running? Alright, we're spoilt in Greater London for bus services on Boxing Day, and I realise many supporters in the counties won't have any public transport even to their nearest rivals that day, but we've really drawn the short straw here. Last season we were at home to Grays on Boxing Day, and unsurprisingly they probably brought less than twenty travelling fans even though they're generally quite well supported. (Meanwhile Grays' near neighbours East Thurrock United were playing Carshalton.)

Well they can press as much as they like. If it is a morning kick off then your club will have agreed to it...

Given Boxing Day falls on a Friday and is five months away I believe a lot of clubs will see sense between now and that date with quite a few being switched to the Saturday.

The same thought occurred to me after my initial posting. It's got to be worth asking Enfield the question. There aren't any more fixtures until New Year's Day.

I have to say the list of Boxing Day fixtres includes a few funny ones and not a lot of thought seems to have gone into the pairings. I believe clubs are invited to express a preferred opponent for Boxing Day, so maybe they've obliged as many clubs as they could then the rest have just had to make to with what's left?

Billericay Town vs AFC Hornchurch
Bury Town vs Leiston
Enfield Town vs Dulwich Hamlet
Grays Athletic vs East Thurrock United
Hendon vs Wingate & Finchley
Kingstonian vs Hampton & Richmond Borough
Leatherhead vs VCD Athletic
Lewes vs Bognor Regis Town
Metropolitan Police vs Harrow Borough
Peacehaven & Telscombe vs Maidstone United
Tonbridge Angels vs Margate
Witham Town vs Canvey Island

Maidstone going to Peacehaven isn't great, but with three Sussex coast clubs one of them is inevitably going to be paired with a non-local opponent. I'd have though Maidstone v Tonbridge would be an obvious fixture, but then Margate would be lft with a long trip to somewhere. Although Margate to Tonbridge is a fair hike anyway.

Hamlet don't really have an obvious local derby; the closest is Kingstonian, which is a longstanding regular lague fixture dating from the 1920's. I'd have thought a better list would be:

Billericay v Witham
Hornchurch v Canvey
Maidstone v Tonbridge
Lewes v Peacehaven
Bognor v Leatherhead
Margate v VCD
Dulwich v Kingstonian
Hampton v Not Police
Hendon v Harrow
Enfield v Finchley
Grays v East Thurrock
Bury v Leiston
