2014/15 Hamlet Kits

By Peter (legacy user)18/7/2014 19:39Fri Jul 18 19:39:40 2014

The club have announced there will be two new shirts for the forthcoming season. Link to them here:

http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/dulwichhamlet/news/2014-2015-home-away-shirts-1255311.html

Bit pricey at £40 IMO but none the less a must buy. I suppose we couldn't use last seasons shirts as they were a 'commemorative edition' to celebrate our Division 1 South triumph.

£40 is far too expensive in my opinion!!

Plus as much as I like Altona....that away kit is awful!!

With regard to pricing, I'm not sure how the £40 price tag was sorted, but-like it or not-Dulwich Hamlet Football Club are NOT a registerd charity, so need to cover costs, and make a few pennies for Club funds.

By comparison, at Millwall shirts are from £43 (short sleeved-SS) or £48 (long sleeved-LS)

Crystal Palace: SS-£45; LS-£48

Charlton Athletic: SS-£44; LS-£47

Arsenal: SS- £50; LS-£55

Chelsea: £55

And, even at the self-appointed 'fans club' AFC Wimbledon: £45.

So ours do appear do represent good value for money, despite the 'high' £40 price tag.

PS. Is there just one junior size? If I wanted to kit my toddler and baby out in one (much to their mother's disgust) how ridiculous are they going to have to look because the shirt is patently twelve sizes too big for them? (Although arguably that will be better value for money as it will look less ridiculous as the years go by and by the time it fits them properly will be back in fashion as a retro design ...)

It's expensive if it's only used for a few months!!

I haven't bought one for years (sponsorship aside) and I won't be buying any at those prices either, but each to there own!!

I really like the away shirt. Leaving aside the Altona connection (although I like that as well) I think it is distinctive and a break from the norm. Excllent idea.

As to pricing, it is quite a lot but so is everything. The club will no doubt have attempted to weigh up profit v not putting people off and come to the conclusion they have. I guess the proof will be in the amount that are sold.

I can only reiterate what I have said elsewhere in this thread...last season's kit, to me at least, CLEARLY had a short shelf life, due to the wording on it. Which made it clearly a one season, albeit it not a full season due to the problems in delivery from the supplier, shirt.

This year they will be on sale right at the beginning of the season, in mid to late August, and I am assuming both designs will have a shelf life of at least two years.

It is your choice not to buy them 'at those prices', but as I have illustrated in another post in this thread they are higher in price than previously, but I do not feel they are exorbitant.

Clearly you're not a regular kit buyer from your statement, that is your choice, but I hope that lots of other fans will buy one of the home or away shirts...even both!

The design of the home shirt is essentially the same as last season. If you sent out a team with half the players wearing each you'd be pushed to tell the difference.

We had two Errea-made kits around a decade ago and they were significantly better quality than most of the others we've had before or since, so personally I won't mind paying a bit extra for a better product. I nearly got one last season but skipped in the end as the fabric felt a bit thin and cheap, and the season was already several months old before they became available and I guessed the esign might change. I don't buy many modern replicas but I fancy one of each of these new ones.

Gareth if you're talking about the yellow and grey then it was a free kit obviously not to the supporters liking. However, it was certainly seen before ordering. Not important I know but the players actually liked it.

I think you'll also find it wasn't worn for as long as you claim.

Well at least one of them must have liked it as "anecdotally" I heard that they left Champion Hill along with said kit...

Although it did create the first (and only) time I have seen a team come out to sustained laughter from opposition fans whilst the few Dulwich fans in the ground tried to hide (and suppress the odd embarrassed chuckle).

'We are the yellow and anthracite army' just doesn't have the same ring to it :-)

Once again Dulwich Hamlet was ahead of its time. Yes we did get the titters from the crowd when it was unveiled at Bishops Stortford but given that several professional clubs have adopted similar flourescent kits down the years. We might have pilloried for that kit at the time but Dulwich Hamlet were pioneers.

I agree Jamie that away kit doesn't look great but anything to stop us looking like Norwich City is a bonus. Hoping its better in the flesh.

Although I understand the reasons for changing the kit (the sponsor logo was awful, and we have a new sponsor for the back) - it is a bit harsh on people who bought last year's replica. It wasn't available until November if I recall correctly, so that's £35 for a shirt that was only current for six months.

Last year's shirt would ALWAYS have to be changed anyway, as it had Division One South Champions on it anyway. The new home kit was kept to the same design, albeit with another manufacturer, precisely because last season's one had a limited shelf life, as I understand it.

Are the shirts striped on the back or do they have an unsightly plain patch?

I think the away one looks great. Unusual tricolour hooped design makes it very distinctive.

The home shirts are striped front and back whilst the away strip has a blank patch for the numbering.

That's what I meant by patch, didn't mean to confuse anyone. Sorry if I did.
