Odds for 2014-2015 Isthmian Premier

By Griff (legacy user)27/7/2014 17:40Sun Jul 27 17:40:06 2014

You ain't seen this right (new FA rules forbid me betting or passing on information in that area) but the bookies have already installed Margate as favorites. Unsurprisingly the money has been lumped on (and not just in Terry Brown's budget) and after opening at 5/1 you'll be lucky to get anything higher than 2s...

I also cannot have anything to do with betting on football and infact would not recommend it to anyone especially based on the fact that the bookies have Lewes at shorter odds than Hamlet... My days !

FA farce

So never mind players & managers...it appears that nobody employed by clubs at our level can bet on football at any level!

Even the groundstaff and tea-person...according to the new Football Association regulations that come into force on Friday.

Talk about using the proverbial sledgehammer to crush a nut!

All they needed to do was ban people from betting on matches in their own division! Oh, that was already in force, but they couldn't police that...

Me? I very rarely football bet anyway...but on the principle, I shall now spend a couple of quid each week on a fixed odds coupon!

It applies to Club officials, whether paid or not. Likewise players, whether paid or not.

You rebel Mishi!

Totally agree that this new ruling is a complete over reaction to a problem that simply cannot be policed. Just because a few scumbag $hitehawk players get convicted of trying to fix games means Griff cannot bet on anything football related is beyond me!

In the usual bland way the FA in its press release of 21st May refers to "participants" with out actually defining who or what a "participant" is..

"A worldwide ban on betting on football will come into force from 1 August 2014 for certain participants in English football.

Included within the worldwide prohibition ratified by The FA shareholders’ 111th Annual General Meeting at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday are all those involved in the game at Premier League, Football League and Football Conference levels, as well as the top two divisions in each of the Northern, Southern and Isthmian leagues.

Participants covered by the ban will be prohibited from betting, either directly or indirectly, on any football match or competition that takes place anywhere in the world.

The changes to FA Rules from the start of the 2014/15 season will also effect a worldwide prohibition on betting on any other football-related matter. For example, the transfer of players, employment of managers or team selection. The passing of inside information to somebody that uses the information for betting remains prohibited.

Following consultation with the game’s stakeholders, the prohibition had previously received a unanimous recommendation by The FA Council on 9 April and The Football Regulatory Authority in March.

Currently, FA Rules state that no participant can bet on a match or competition in which they are involved that season, or which they can influence, or any other football-related matter concerning the league that they play in.

They also prohibit participants from using or passing inside information for betting. These current prohibitions will be retained after 1 August 2014 in respect of participants involved in the game below Step 4 of the National League System. These are the only participants who will not be subject to the worldwide ban."

Participants:
Club offical, player, Management Committee Member or employee of an affiliated Club and all such persons who are from time to time participating in any activity sanctioned either directly or indirectly by The Association.

It includes the tea lady but, on Jack Pearce's reassurance, they probably won't go after her.

That is mental! And it's surely completely beyond any semblance of possible policing. They'd never know, unless someone were to whack many thousands on a non-league game, enough to alert the bookies. And how on earth can they stop you betting on global fixtures?

Bizarre.

Surely they could far more easily control it by changing the law with the bookies so as to enforce a max £100 bet on fixtures in same league or non-league and make them stick to offering match odds only???
