v Thamesmead

Won 1-0. An interesting game. As was pointed out, we didnt actually have a shot on target all game, but in all honesty I thought we played alright. It was by no means our worst performance of the season: the Hampton match that was so insipid and impotent it made me want to gouge my own eyes out, was miles worse.
By the end of the game we had the kids out; in fact the midfield consisted of Hobbs, Robinson and Cookie, all of whom must have about 10 games between them. Mascoll, Shaw, McCoulsky, Brown are all teenagers too. Sure, we were hanging on a bit at the end, but Thamesmead definitely had a few first teamers playing and we did well to hold them out. I thought the midfield tonight were good: Ibrahim Mansaray, Cookie and Malachi Robinson all looked lively and decent on the ball. Cherno Mendy has improved aince he was last with us as well and McCoulsky and Oshane are looking extremely comfortable at this level.
Feel like we look a lot more cohesive and more of a team both tonight and against Canvey, than when I last saw us against Hampton. Playing with an out and out striker definitely, definitely helps.
An enjoyable evening and a Good result given the team we had out.

Hamlet 1 Thamesmead 0

A fairly low key game with little to choose between the two sides. Hamlet rested a core of regular starters including Forbes, Pinnock, Vidal and Carew, with others still out injured. We were neat enough in the middle third as usual but struggled to created scoring chances and made a few potentially costly slip-ups at the back.
The only goal came early in the second half when a ball inot the box from our right caused indecision in the visiting defence, leading to a sliced clearance from just outsdie the six yard box that spun crazily into the air and looped backwards over the tall goalkeeper and just under the crossbar. We later had the ball into the net a second time after the keeper spilled an outswingng cross from the right, but it was cancelled by an apparent rogue offside flag. I was standing right in line with the cross and it came in more or less square from near the corner flag; there's no way any Hamlet player was ahead of the ball. Thamesmead has posed little more threat than ourselves until the final ten minutes or so when they suddenly forced some fine saves out of Brown and had a couple of other near misses.
I suppose the main positive was some extended game time for some of our newer and younger players: Steven was very neat in midfield after Kalakoutis had gone off with some sort of upper body injury early in the game, while Mascoll looked confident going forward on the left on his debut.
Team (4-2-3-1): Brown - Hibbert, Kamara, Gonsalves, Shaw - I.Mansaray, Kalakoutis - Clunis, Robinson, Mendy - McCoulsky.
Subs used: Steven, Mascoll, Hobbs. (Not used: McDonald, Mason.)
