Maidstone FA cup

Maidstone beat Welling at home in the FA cup 4th qualifying round and thus will participate in the FA cup 1st round proper on November 8th. Hence, our away game that day will no doubt be postponed. What that does for the supporters team game I don't know.

The only other team without a game (barring replay wins for Harrow and Canvey Island) is Enfield Town who were due to play East Thurrock. Might make sense to bring forward our trip there to ease the strain on players over Christmas but Enfield might not be keen to lose a bumper crowd. Have to wait and see. Unlikely to be a home game as Fisher are at Champion Hill on the 8th. Which with hindsight would rule out Harrow and Canvey's potential opponents that day which are K's and Leiston respectively, both of whom we having played away already.

East Thurrock away

There is also the possibility of our away league match at East Thurrock, scheduled for Tuesday 4 November being postponed, as for the last round the Isthmian League gave clubs still in the cup permission to postpone their preceding midweek league fixtures. This game could be postponed anyway if either East Thurrock or ourseleves draw in the Trophy next weekend and require a replay.

The game has been put back to allow East Thurrock the full week to prepare for their trip to Hartlepools United in the FA Cup First Round next Saturday... Given what they did to Bath last Saturday might be a good thing :)

Was it put back by a league decision, or did the club agree to it as a gesture of goodwill?

The league offered the clubs competing in the First Round the option to postpone midweek games which both East Thurrock and Madstone took up. Though of course, as PP suggested below, if either draw in the FA Trophy this weekend they'd still have a replay to contend with anyway.

Frankly I think this sort of thing is bollocks. Unless we need a replay with Chalfont we'll now have two weeks with no match, with Maidstone away already off due to the FA Cup. Even Premier League clubs aren't allowed to postpone league games before Champions League Semi Finals etc. and I see no good reason why ETU (or anyone else in our league for that matter) shouldn't fulfil a Tuesday night fixture like this. (If they need a Trophy replay I'm sure the FA will make them play it on 4 Nov anyway.) If the winter has set in by late November, and then clubs start getting bogged down with county cup ties taking precedence etc. the game could end up being shoehorned in at the end of the season. That's what happened with the notorious Leatherhead replay of thed abandoned game. It took three months to fit in, finally going ahead o the penultimate midweek, by which time five of our XI for the original game were unavailable through injury and suspension, and we lost. Ellis Green effectively missed that game due to a suspension triggered partly by a booking in the abandoned game - the only statistic from that match that ever counted for anything.
