Apparently this is a rather dodgy pub, overheard some chap in the latrines say he got bashed in there.

Depends on personal preference and what time of day or week you visit. I'm fine with the EDT myself. Personally my preference would probably be the Gowlett (corner of Gowlett and Amott Roads) the closest to a traditional backstreet boozer, plus the guv'nor is a Hamlet fan and they sponsored a match earlier this season. The Cherry Tree is closest to the ground and ticks most boxes without being sensational: plenty of space, efficient service, televised games shown. The Great Exhibition (corner of Underhill and Crystal Palace Roads, formerly the Crystal Palace Tavern) is decent if a bit pricey. One to avoid is the Patch (formerly the Magdala) which is basically now a restaurant with a small public bar at the front. I went in there just after it reopened early this year and paid £4.40 for a pint of Exmoor Gold. (I believe the Palmerston is similar.)

I'd say the matchday atmosphere in the club bar is the best it's been for a good few years, probably since Lindsay was running it seven or eight years ago. Until this season I'd more or less given up on it for the past two or three years, but now I once again enjoy using it regularly.

Steve the bar manager is open to suggestions as to what people want and on matchdays there are generally several real ales from local microbreweries such as Brick (Peckham), Clarkshaws (East Dulwich), Late Knights (Penge), Brixton (Brixton!), Head In A Hat (Herne Hill), Gipsy Hill (West Norwood) @£3.20 a pint served on gravity on the bar, and they usually sell out by shortly after full time. Other local beers are available in bottles and cans such as Brick Brewery Peckham Pilsner and various Four Pure beers, as well as the more mainstream beers and lagers.

There's also the Flying Pig next to the Goose Green playground which has a superb selection of beers from across the world. Check the prices on the board before you order though as some are as much as £7 a pint.
