When Saturday Comes !

Not long to go and we will know our playoff fate. The unthinkable and another 6th place finish is best not mentioned(Shit I have mentioned it)
Anyway that aside its 1 point to guarantee at least Hendon in the semis and 3 points to guarantee a trip to Margate on a Thursday night Yuk. Any way with Tonbridge safe essentially, unless they lose to us and Peacehaven put 26 goals without reply past Hampton surely we will be at the playoff party having cruelly missed out last year.

More interesting from a neutral point of view is the 5 way fight to avoid the final relegation place. Peacehaven could still avoid the drop if they win against Hampton and any one of Lewes, VDC, Canvey or Harrow lose. It will be nail biting for all those fans and if only it were possible to be at every ground on Saturday. Best of luck to everyone. Guess we will all know the score ,' When Saturday Comes '...

See you all at Tonbridge.

I see on the Enfield town website they have been charged with playing an ineligible player, their site believes they will lose points?!

Shambolic if it comes to that bearing in mind the guy played in February

Seems similar to the Thurrock fiasco of a few years back with the league not taking action until almost the end of the season. One question does arise from reading this - why did they report it to the FA in the first instance rather than direct to the Ryman League?

Because the FA deal with player eligibility, not the league - when you register a player you have to register with both the League and the FA.

The difference between the Enfield and Thurrock cases to me on the basis on the defence (we haven't seen the FA's decision) is that Enfield appear to have done everything right, whereas Thurrock seemingly didn't check the FA databases themselves in the first place - the next club their player appeared for found the pending suspension immediately (it's the point where their defence fell apart).

One other difference between this and the Thurrock fiasco is that the player already appears to have served a suspension, albeit in different matches than should initially have been the case.

The statement on ETFC's website suggests that all relevant authorities were aware of the incident more than two months ago and the club was told that no further action would be taken. What a complete bloody shambles.

As for the relegation fight, if Peacehaven win they'll definitely stay up as the 21st placed club with the best playing record across the leagues, due to Salisbury City folding mid-season to leave only two clubs to be relegated from Conference South. At present Stamford (21st in the Northern Premier League Premier Division) have one point less than Peacehaven.

No one at the club has been able to answer this and I have no idea if the semi finals have to be played simultaneously or not which could be a huge factor. I have been told the club has to assume Thursday will go ahead and sort it out afterwards if not. This is all being made more difficult because of it being all ticket which is frankly daft for a Thursday night in Margate even given our support. We will have to wait and see which I am sure Met police are also doing as it must be even more difficult for them not knowing.

I doubt whether there are any rules in relation to this probably just protocol. As the last statement from the league says "That charge has yet to be heard and will not be heard until Thursday 30 April unless the club agrees to an earlier date. Accordingly, the Ryman Premier Division play-off matches cannot be confirmed at this time."

I seem to recall a few years ago some of the semi-finals were played on separate days, though whether that was down to weather of ground issues I can't recall, I think Fleet may have been involved. There was definitely a bit of a kerfuffle over it with one of the managers wanting the final put back as he felt the recovery time was not enough.

We just have to go ahead as planned until advised otherwise. At least we know who we are playing and where, consider Hendon's situation - do you prepare for Enfield and what would probably be a full house at Earlsmead or Met Police with one man and his police dog?

BTW does anyone know if Enfield have it in writing that the FA told them to drop the suspended player for two games to make for the ones he played in whilst under suspension? If this is the case then any appeal should surely be a doddle. Then again given what has gone before it sounds almost as if they relied on word of mouth for a decision that was not ratified by any formalised process.

Of course any decision in Enfield's favour might be accused of creating a dangerous precedence in itself with clubs effectively self-suspending their players and able to "choose" the games they do so?

Just to throw even more faeces into the fan one of the options open to resolve the case is to replay the game they won in which the bloke was suspended. And guess who that is against - Hendon. Which then opens up all sorts of wonderful scenarios, most lunatic of which is that Hendon win by a big enough margin to leapfrog Maidstone to the title. Alternatively Enfield win against Hendon, get back the three points thus putting them into a playoff semi with Hendon! Of course Hendon and Enfield could just put out weakened sides, play to a draw and except the fine before playing that semi.

Additionally their Middlesex Cup Final has been postponed because another game under investiagtion was the cup quarter final. If they 'lose' that game the defeated teams in the quarter and semi final will play a 'new' semi final and the final will be played before the start of next season!!!
Also wondering what will happen if the play off semi gets postponed and then potentially contracts expire and maybe some players take a holiday?

Now that's interesting. Have seen the statement on the Middlesex FA site (www.middlesexfa.com/news/2015/apr/senior-charity-cup-final-postponed) and while it says that Enfield did not seek to gain an advantage it does seem strangely coincidental that this has only sprung to light in recent days. Surely Enfield would informed the county FA of this fact at the same time as they informed the FA?

A further complication could arise if Enfield have to replay their game against Hendon. If Enfield were to win by 2 clear goals they would actually finish above Dulwich in the table on goal difference/goals scored which would give them an away tie against Margate in the semi-final with Dulwich having to visit Hendon. If Dulwich and Margate have already played their semi-final by that time, that's gonna cause a right old hullabaloo!! Somehow, I don't think the winners of that tie will be too keen to play another semi-final!

That's a very good point. I really cant see the FA making them play that game again though. I think its much more likely they will just deduct the 3 points off of Enfield and give Met Pol the final play off place. Its tuff on Enfield but that's my odds on outcome.

That will surely mean the final will be postponed too Jamie and will not take place on the Bank holiday Monday?
Assuming they wont have it as an evening kick off in the week(Which would be terrible in my opinion) it will surely mean the following Saturday would be the first opportunity to stage the playoff final ?

I am obviously not saying that a win at Margate is a given far from it but what are everyone's thoughts?

Past experience says that the final is unlikely to be delayed though that will of course depend on when Hendon & whoever have their semi. Then, of course, there is the question of sorting out the final venue. The way I see things at the moment is that the other semi is unlikely to go ahead until Saturday at the earliest making arranging the final two days later pretty diffiult not just on the playing side but off the field too. Whoever wins our game at Margate would not know if they were home or away in the final, whether they needed to book transport (a bugger on Bank Holiday), sorting out stewarding, programme printing, catering, etc, etc.

Meanwhile on the Enfield side things are getting murkier and murkier with FA website stating Enfield had until April Fool's Day to respond to the charge of playing this chap whilst suspending. The thread on the Hendon form is worth reading..

Judging by the levels of backing they are aiming to pul in for their cause, I'm sure Enfield Town would be the first to go running to the League is they felt the other club was in breach of the rules. Of course if (and its a very big IF) this turns out to be not quite as it seems it could prove very damaging for Enfield indeed.

Thing here is a lot of this case seems to rely on plenty of others getting it wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Enfield got it wrong but depending on the evidence they have to present to prove that the FA, the Ryman League, the player himself, VCD Athletic, Cheshunt and possibly a number of others got it wrong then I am tended to be reminded of Tony Hancock's suicide note "Things just seemed to go too wrong too many times"

Whatever comes out of this at the end I am sure that there will plenty who will assume this is all a conspiritorial cover-up to cover up FA incompetence over the small club.

As I say murkier and murkier. All players have a unique registration number which I assume would be on their transfer form (if its not then that's a major oversight by the FA). If that is the case then it should be nigh on impossible to pull up the wrong name unless the wrong number was entered and somehow pulled up a player with the same or similar name.

If I were the brief for the prosecution I would be asking myself why both of the player's clubs managed to enter his data incorrectly, enabling Enfield to miss him at the time of registration yet find it later when they informed the FA yet seemed not to have informed the Ryman League or the Middlesex FA, in whose competitions the chap played whilst under suspension leading to a points deduction in the former and (at worst) expulsion in the other. I'm still trying to work out whether they have written evidence of the "drop him for a couple of games ruling" that they received from the FA. Could you imagine being stopped for driving whilst disqualified for a month and the copper saying that's OK just don't take the car out next month!

Its intriguing but very frustrating for everyone concerned.
I am certain though if the other semi is not played until Saturday that there will not be a final on Bank Holiday Monday. It would be impossible to get organised and totally unfair on the team that had only just played 48 hours before. A midweek fixture in the evening would be massively the wrong decision so surely as long as all players were in contract the following Saturday at 3.00pm would be the obvious answer and best for all concerned.
