With the re-structuring of the leagues and the creation of a Southern Midlands division, there is no doubt that both the Southern and Isthmian leagues are significantly weaker now than in previous seasons. Eg. the Southern Premier has lost Hereford, King's Lynn, Slough , Kettering, Banbury and Hitchin, all 'bigger' clubs with strong fan bases (= money !).
True, the promotion of Taunton & Salisbury partly balances the losses but overall the division is weaker - but probably more competitive. The lower divisions of Southern and Isthmian are also weaker with the elevation of a number of 'small' clubs who may struggle financially on their small attendances.
None of this detracts from the excellent start H.B. have made to their season - and they, along with Hendon and possibly even Beaconsfield, the surprise team of the season so far, may all have a chance of making it to the playoffs.
My guess is they would have stood the same chance this season in the Isthmian too.
Harrow are playing exciting football with goals at both ends so it is disappointing to see crowds not growing at Earlsmead.
After their much improved performance yesterday, I still believe Chesham under their new management and with just a few new players, could go on a long winning run and could even also make the playoffs.
Unfortunately it probably won't start next week in the FA Trophy !
Good luck at Biggleswade - they may be unbeaten but they don't always win at home and they rarely score 2 goals !
A replay would be a good result for H.B. and is certainly achievable.
