FA Cup stories -? - Yeovil Town 83/84

I see up on the website a little potted history of Harrow's FA cup history and theres a reference to a "few uncomfortable moments for fans" in the 1st round away to Yeovil Town many years ago. Did anybody go? And whats it refering to?
Can fans enlighten us as to what happenned?
And have any other Boro fans got any memories of other epic FA cup moments that happenned to the club they would like to share on the forum?

I don't know what happened against Yeovil as I wasn't born.

Eastbourne Borough away was a great day. We brought a lot of fans (at least by our standards) which made for a great atmosphere. They were around mid-table at the time. I think around 14th and had scored the most and also conceeded the most goals in their division so was always likely to be a goal fest. We completely blew Eastbourne away despite them being 2 divisions above us, racing in to a 3 goal lead before half-time. We killed the game off early in the second half with a 4th goal. I spoke to one of the big noises (possibly director) at Eastbourne after the game who congratulated us. Great day all round.

Newport IOW was an interesting one, simply because I had to get a boat to watch the Boro which was rather unique. I'm pretty sure we were 2-0 up but ended up drawing 2-2 but we beat them 2-0 in the replay.

I'll end on a downer. Flackwell Heath. What a joke that was, They were Ryman Division 2 and we didn't turn up. We just went through the motions. With about 5 minutes to go, Flackwell Heath scored and only then did we show any urgency but it was too late.

Eastbourne sounds great cappers, liked to have seen that.
Me being a bit of a newbie when it comes to supporting Harrow Borough ( I missed last year against Northwood working, thank God) so I only have this years exploits to go on but that day sounds similar to the day out wednesday to Margate, I don't think there fans really gave us much of a chance and on reflection I now think we were even the better side in the 2-2 draw.
Be fantastic if we could do the same at Northampton Town.

I wasn't at Margate. It was obviously a great night. I guess the main difference though, is that Eastbourne were two divisions above at the time (conf national) rather than Margate who were just one division above. I should imagine though, as it was an evening game against Margate, it must have added something to the atmosphere as evening games often offer that little bit extra atmosphere wise. Tonbridge Angels away in the play-offs was a great night as well even though we lost in extra-time.

Yeovil.
From memory, We alighted our coaches in good spirits & we very surprised to be told buy stewards that we shouldn't drink in the Yeovil club bars , for our own safety!. So a large group of us headed off to a recommended pub. Our return to the ground encountered the local welcoming committee , so we were rather pleased that the ground was segregated. We had half the open terrace behind one goal, the rest of the terrace & right round the corner was a sterile area & empty.
The game kicked off with Boro kicking away from us. So many hundreds of home Supporters were moving towards our end. As they started to gather 50 yds from us behind the second fence , Boro scored in the 2nd minute. While we were celebrating a Couple of hundred home fans were through the first fence, the stewards were powerless to stop them at the 2nd one either. Suddenly the away end was less than a 1/4 of the terrace as we were pushed into the corner, strangely the locals seemed more interested in fighting with the stewards & police when they arrived. We had a pretty crap view of the game , but delighted to hold out for the win. In true 80's fashion the away fans were locked in after the match while the locals were ushered away. They were not ushered far , because a few moments later missiles of mud & stones were being thrown over the fence. We were given a full police escort untill the coaches were well outside Yeovil.

Wow sounds feisty, I'm sure our trip to Northampton will be much more mundane. The playoffs at Tonbridge were great but in terms of FA Cup, I remember going away to Hemel Hempstead when we lost 4-2. The walk to the ground from the station was ridiculous and all for a defeat! North Greenford and Northwood were lows indeed.
